Massimo Giuntini en Silvio Trotta zijn twee Italiaanse musici die op hun album Libero Arbitrio (Vrije Wil) een geweldige mix creëren van Italiaanse liederen met Bretonse folk.

De doedelzak- en fluitspeler Massimo Giuntini is een muzikant uit Arezzo met een Keltisch hart. Snaren-speler Silvio Trotta, die uit de streek Molise komt, is een bevlogen zanger. Samen namen zij het album Libero Arbitrio op. Beiden muzikanten komen dus uit Italië. Zij maken een interessante mix van Italiaanse liederen met Keltische folk en slaan een succesvolle brug tussen beide stijlen. Het openingslied Rundinella / Alborada is hier een prachtig voorbeeld van. Een uitgekiende mix van beiden culturen, die sowieso niet zo heel ver van elkaar zijn verwijderd, maar in dit nummer heel mooi organisch versmelten. Op het gevarieerde album Libero Arbitrio staat zeer melodische muziek. Zowel instrumentale als vocale stukken, afgewisseld met instrumentale B-gedeelten op uilleann pipes (doedelzak), zoals in The Forest Song. Hierin wordt er op de melodie, nadat deze door Silvio fraai is gezongen, instrumentaal gevarieerd. De gitaar en de mandola (soort grote mandoline) zijn de kern van de muziek en worden omspeeld door flauti Irlandesi (fluit), uilleann pipes, zo nu en dan wat elektronica (strings en elektronisch ritme) en percussie van gastmuzikant David Hopi Hopkins. De meeste stukken zijn geschreven door Massimo Giuntini, maar er staat ook het lied Nel Giardino dei salici op van Angelo Branduardi en het schitterende Il cammino dat werd geschreven door Corrado Sfogli van het gezelschap Nuova Compagnia di Canto Popolare. Een werkelijk prachtig lied met een eeuwigdurende melodie, zo mooi! Libero Arbitrio is een uniek album, waarop de krachtige Italiaanse folk bijzonder fraai wordt gemixt met de Keltische!

Massimo Giuntini and Silvio Trotta are two wonderful Italian musicians who create an excellent mix of Italian songs with Breton folk on their album Libero Arbitrio (Free Will).

The bagpipe and flute player Massimo Giuntini is a musician from Arezzo with a Celtic heart. String player Silvio Trotta, who comes from the Molise region, is an inspired singer. Together they recorded the album Libero Arbitrio. So both musicians come from Italy. They make an interesting mix of Italian songs with Celtic folk and build a successful bridge between both styles. The opening song Rundinella / Alborada is a great example of this. A clever mix of both cultures, which are not that far from each other anyway, but merge very nicely organically in this song. The varied album Libero Arbitrio contains very melodic music. Both instrumental and vocal parts, interspersed with instrumental B-part on uilleann pipes (bagpipes), as in The Forest Song. In this piece the melody, after it has been beautifully sung by Silvio, is instrumentally varied. The guitar and the mandola (sort of a large mandolin) are the core of the music and are played around by flauti Irlandesi (flute), uilleann pipes, now and then some electronics (strings and electronic rhythm) and percussion by guest musician David Hopi Hopkins. Most of the pieces were written by Massimo Giuntini, but there is also the song Nel Giardino dei salici by Angelo Branduardi and the beautiful Il cammino, written by Corrado Sfogli of the wonderful band Nuova Compagnia di Canto Popolare. A truly excellent song with an everlasting melody, so beautiful! Libero Arbitrio is an unique album, on which the powerful Italian folk is beautifully mixed with the Celtic!
