De musici van Svøbsk zijn multi-inzetbaar. Als duo, trio, kwartet, voor kinderen, dans-, Kerst- of kerkconcert. Op hun nieuwe album Den Langfingrede (De lange vinger) horen we deze voortreffelijke musici heerlijk vertrouwd als kwartet.

De basis van de Deense groep Svøbsk bestaat uit accordeoniste Maren Hallberg en Jørgen Dickmeiss op viool/gitaar & zang. Voor elke gelegenheid wordt het duo aangevuld met musici tot trio of kwartet. Voor het nieuwe album, in kwartet-bezetting, spelen pianist Theis Langlands en percussionist Simon Busk mee.

Den Langfingrede is weer zo’n fantastisch folk-album waar de folk vanaf spat en doordringt tot diep in je poriën. Niet zo vreemd want deze vier musici studeerden folk aan de Conservatoria, spelen al jaren samen (sinds 2003) en componeren en arrangeren hun eigen werk dat veel kenmerken heeft van Deense folk. Svøbsk speelt kamer-folkmuziek. Stukken met fraaie thematiek, mooi uitgewerkte variaties, dynamische B- en C-gedeelten en fraai gezongen stukken door Dickmeiss, zoals Nu fluver jeg (Nu vlieg ik, met gastzangeres Katrine Daugaard). De composities klinken organisch en natuurlijk, en wie goed luistert zal de harmonische tegenstemmen, ritmische veranderingen en de twinkelende afwisselingen opvallen zoals bijvoorbeeld in Forårstid. De stralende variaties op viool en piano in Bramstrup en het stuwende Snowville. En dan nog de twee dansen aan het slot van deze gevarieerde CD Den tabte Vals (De verloren wals) en Morfars March met een fraai B-gedeelte. En dat is precies wat de muziek van Svøbsk zo de moeite waard maakt. Het zit allemaal verdomd goed en doordacht in elkaar en toch blijft de muziek dichtbij de luisteraar. Dat is niet alleen knap werk, maar het geeft je ook zo’n heerlijk warm folk-gevoel.

Svøbsk’s musicians are versatile. As a duo, trio, quartet, for children, dance-, Christmas- or church concert. On their new album Den Langfingrede (The Long Finger) we hear these excellent musicians wonderfully familiar as a quartet.

The basis of the Danish group Svøbsk consists of accordion player Maren Hallberg and Jørgen Dickmeiss on violin/guitar & vocals. For every occasion the duo is supplemented with musicians to form a trio or quartet. For the new album they play in a quartet line-up with pianist Theis Langlands and percussionist Simon Busk.

Den Langfingrede is another fantastic folk album where the folk splash and penetrates deep into your pores. Not so strange, because these four musicians studied folk at the Conservatories, have been playing together for years (since 2003) and compose and arrange their own work that has many characteristics of Danish folk. Svøbsk plays excellent chamber folk music. Compositions with beautiful themes, nicely elaborated variations, dynamic B and C parts and beautifully sung pieces by Dickmeiss, such as Nu fluver jeg (Now I fly, with guest singer Katrine Daugaard). The compositions sound organic and natural, and if you listen closely you will notice the harmonic counterpoints, rhythmic changes and twinkling alternations, such as in Forårstid. The radiant variations on violin and piano in Bramstrup and the driving piece Snowville. And the two dances at the end of this varied CD Den tabte Vals (The lost waltz) and Morfars March, with a beautiful B-part. This is exactly what makes Svøbsk’s music so rewarding. It’s all so damn good and well thought out and yet the music stays close to the listener. That is not only beautiful work, but it’s also great to listen to, giving you that warm folk-feeling!
