Als muziek van goede kwaliteit is, blijft deze tijdloos en kan ook na een jaar van uitgave nog met gemak worden gerecenseerd. Bij deze De Grote Vrouw van de Vlaamse contrabassiste en componiste Lara Rosseel.

De Vlaamse contrabassiste en componiste Lara Rosseel is wars van stijlen. Zij componeerde kleurrijke en verhalende werken waar de muziek voor zich spreekt, waar het muzikaal landschap zich moeiteloos ontvouwt en je meeneemt naar idyllische plekjes en schitterende vergezichten. We horen improvisatorische composities in een bezetting van bugel, trombone, dwarsfluit, baritonsax, gitaar, vibrafoon/marimba, percussie en zij zelf dus op de contrabas. Rosseel schildert prachtige klankbeelden. We horen een Orientaalse sfeer in het openingsstuk. Een mijmerende weerspiegeling van trompet en contrabas in La Suite, gevolgd door Bicycle. Een frisse en heldere compositie met een feature voor trompet en vibrafoon, gevolgd door een obligaat ritme van marimba/gedempte gitaar en scheurende dwarsfluit. Voorafgegaan door Blues 65 dat kenmerken in zich draagt van de polyritmische Juju muziek uit Nigeria. Bijzonder is ook het lyrische slotstuk Wilson waarin je in een 5-telsmaat wordt meegevoerd naar Zuid-Afika. Rosseel maakt gebruik van een doortastende orkestrale aanpak. De muziek heeft diverse lagen die elkaar fraai aanvullen en de composities boeiend maken. Zij ziet haar band als een orkest waar niet alle instrumenten simultaan spelen maar elkaar afwisselen en aanvullen naar gelang de compositie of het arrangement er naar vraagt. Dat getuigt niet alleen van een open en avontuurlijke muzikale geest maar ook van durf en een doortastende aanpak en maakt van Lara Rosseel een groot musicus.

If music is of good quality, it remains timeless and can still be reviewed with ease even after a year of release. So here we present the album De Grote Vrouw (The Tall Woman) by the Flemish double bassist and composer Lara Rosseel.

The Flemish (from Belgium) double bass player and composer Lara Rosseel likes a lot of music styles. She composed colourful music where the music speaks for itself, where the musical landscape unfolds effortlessly and takes you to idyllic spots and beautiful views. We hear improvisational compositions in a line-up of flugelhorn, trombone, flute, baritone sax, guitar, vibraphone / marimba, percussion with Lara on the double bass. Rosseel paints beautiful sound images. We hear an Oriental atmosphere in the opening piece. A musing reflection of trumpet and double bass in La Suite, followed by Bicycle. A fresh and bright composition with a feature for trumpet and vibraphone, followed by an obligatory rhythm of marimba / muted guitar and fuzzing flute. Preceded by Blues 65, which has characteristics of the polyrhythm Juju music from Nigeria. Also special is the lyrical final piece Wilson in which you are moved to South Africa in a 5-count measure. Rosseel uses a fascinating orchestral approach. The music has various layers that complement each other beautifully and make the compositions exciting. She sees her band as an orchestra where not all instruments play simultaneously but alternate and supplement each other, according to the composition or the arrangement. This not only testifies to an open and adventurous musical spirit, but also to daring and a thorough approach and makes Lara Rosseel a great musician.
