Bijzonder is de muziek waarbij je steeds op het verkeerde been wordt gezet omdat het niet helemaal duidelijk is waar je nou eigenlijk naar luistert; jazz, pop, Oost-Europese- of Oriëntaalse wereldmuziek….? Zo vergaat het je ongeveer als je luistert naar het album The Sound Braka van de Franse bassist Stracho Temelkovski, dat alle kanten op zwiept. En dat is geweldig want je wordt getrakteerd op een fantastisch muzikaal avontuurlijk spervuur.

Heerlijk weer eens een album te beluisteren waar de componist wars is van stijlen. Of eigenlijk helemaal niet wars is van stijlen maar deze juist fraai combineert tot een nieuwe muzikale ratatouille. The Sound Braka, dat Broeders in Muziek betekent, is de debuut-CD van bassist en snarenspeler Stracho Temelkovski. De titel refereert aan de stijlen-mix van diverse musici met allen een andere muzikale achtergrond waardoor jazz, Oost-Europees (balkan), latin en Orientaalse muziek aan bod komen en door Temelkovski fraai door elkaar worden gehusseld. Hij werd geboren in 1978 in Grenoble met een Macedonische achtergrond, is autodidact, leerde zichzelf (bas)gitaar spelen en experimenteerde met sampling en programming. Hij werkte o.a. met Antonio Placer (zanger uit Galicië), de Cubaanse meesterpianist Omar Sosa en componeerde muziek voor dans- en educatieve voorstellingen. Een breed georiënteerd muzikant dus, die al zijn muzikale ervaringen nu uitwerkt op het album The Sound Braka. Dat hij werkt met open-minded muzikanten-broeders blijkt wel uit de inventieve uitwerking van de stukken. Er wordt gebruik gemaakt van de accordeon (schitterend gespeeld door Jean-Francois Baez), piano (weergaloos in het openingswerk waar Jean-Marie Machado even helemaal modaal los gaat in zijn solo). Verder horen we sax, sitar, guembri (Noord-Afrikaanse banjo), tuba, ney (fluit), percussie en synthesizer. Alle instrumenten komen ruimschoots (solistisch) aan bod, soms verscholen, dan weer breed uitgemeten. Zo ontstaan fraaie muzikale kleurcombinaties waarmee een gemêleerd geheel wordt gecreëerd dat afwisselend, gedurfd en boeiend is!

The Sound Braka, which means Brothers in Music, is the debut CD by bassist and guitar player Stracho Temelkovski. The title refers to the mix of styles of various musicians, all with a different musical background, whereby jazz, Eastern European (Balkan), Latin and Oriental music is featured and is beautifully mixed up by Temelkovski. He was born in 1978 in Grenoble with a Macedonian background, he taught himself to play (bass) guitar and experimented with sampling and programming. This creates beautiful musical color combinations that creates a mixed sound which is varied, daring and fascinating!
