De eerste kennismaking met een CD is, over het algemeen, het hoesje. Dit is bij het Zweeds-Deense gezelschap Trolska Polksa een zeer aanstekelijke. Met pret-ogen nodigt een vriendelijk lachende trol je uit om naar de muziek op Eufori (euforie) te komen luisteren. Let op!, wie de cd afspeelt, zit iets meer dan drie kwartier gekluisterd aan de speler…..heerlijk!

Violist en componist Martin Seeberg startte in 2011 Trolska Polksa. Met Eufori brengt de groep hun derde, en beste, album tot nu toe uit. Al jaren droomde Seeberg van een trollen-orkest. Dat verwezenlijkt hij nu met Trolska Polska. Een ensemble dat teruggrijpt op de Noorse trollen-mythologie. Zeven doorgewinterde musici bespelen violen, draailier, doedelzak, nyckelharpa (druktoetsen-viool), mandoline, cittern (soort mandoline), contrabas, cello en percussie. Fraaie thema’s (alle gecomponeerd door Seeberg) liggen zo lekker in het gehoor dat het lijkt alsof ze er altijd al waren. De muziek klinkt logisch en vanzelfsprekend maar toch is er voor de accurate luisteraar van alles te ontdekken. Elk stuk draagt wel een klein muzikuultje in zich, zoals het ‘inhouden’ van ritmiek, thema’s die door het gebruik van wisselende harmonieën gevarieerd klinken, of variëren in bezetting met wisselende instrumentatie in coupletten, refrein of brug. Daarnaast klinkt de muziek doorleeft met een hoge mate van spontaniteit, inleving en (speel)plezier. Het album Eufori bestaat uit 11 hoofdstukken (tracks) die samen het sprookje Historien om Troldballenhus vormen. Een verhaal over het ontwakende Trollenland na een lange winter, waarna er feest wordt gevierd, de koning en de reus op bezoek komen, er slecht weer op komst is en het bos uiteindelijk weer helemaal stil wordt. Niet alleen is het verhaal te vinden in het begeleidende boekje, ook de schitterende illustraties dragen bij aan de feestvreugde. Gemêleerd gekleurde tekeningen van Kent Overby Stück spreken tot de verbeelding en maken van dit nieuwe album een schitterende samenwerking tussen verhaal, muziek en beeld waar je helemaal euforisch van wordt.

The first introduction to a CD is, in general, the cover. The Swedish-Danish band Trolska Polksa created a very catchy one. A friendly smiling troll, with funny sparkling eyes, invites you to listen to the music on Eufori (euphoria). Please note! Whoever puts the CD in his player, is glued to it for over 45 minutes for listening to splendid music!

Violinist and composer Martin Seeberg started Trolska Polksa in 2011. With Eufori the group released their third and best album to date. For years Seeberg dreamed of a troll orchestra. He is now achieving it this with the great band Trolska Polska. An ensemble that harks back to Norse trol mythology. Seven seasoned musicians play violins, hurdy-gurdy, bagpipes, nyckelharpa (push-button violin), mandolin, cittern (kind of mandolin), double bass, cello and percussion. Beautiful themes (all composed by Seeberg) are so easy to listen to that it seems as if they have always been there. The music sounds logical and self-explanatory, but there is still a lot to discover for the accurate listener. Each piece contains a small musical element, such as the content of rhythm, themes that sound varied due to the use of changing harmonies, or changing the instrument layers by instrumentation in verse, refrain or bridge. In addition, the music is played with a high degree of spontaneity, empathy and fun. The album Eufori consists 11 chapters (tracks) which tell the fairy tale Historien om Troldballenhus. A story about the awakening of Trolland after a long winter, there is a party, a visit from the king and the giant, bad weather is on it’s way and the forest becomes completely quiet again at the end. Not only the story is to be found in the accompanying booklet, but there are also beautiful illustrations that contribute to the festive spirit. Wonderful mixed coloured drawings by Kent Overby Stück appeal to the imagination and make this new album a wonderful collaboration between story, music and image. This really makes you completely euphoric.
