In ongekende uitvoeringen horen we het Britse ensemble The Gesulado Six in religieus georiënteerd composities op hun nieuwe album Fading. De kern van hun a capella gezongen repertoire is vooral de muziek uit de completen; de laatste dienst van de dag in het monastieke leven. We horen stukken uit de twaalfde tot en met de eenentwintigste eeuw.

De Britten, van oudsher meesters in het uitvoeren van vocale meerstemmige (oude) muziek, blinken ook hier weer uit in optima forma. The Gesualdo Six bestaat uit zes zangers: twee countertenors (hoge mannenstemmen die zijn gedubbeld), tenor, bariton en bas. Deze zes vocalisten hebben een ongelooflijk mooie en majestueuze eensgezindheid in de uitvoering, waarbij de eerbied voor de muziek fraai tot uiting komt. In gemêleerd repertoire met contrasterende timbres, dat zich ontvouwt vanaf de 12e eeuw tot de 21ste eeuw, klinken er werken van o.a. Hildegard van Bingen,  Gesulado en Tallis (Te lucis ante terminum: psalm voor de dagsluiting). We horen ook stukken van Sarah Rimkus (1990) My heart is like a singing bird: een opdracht-compositie met gedurfde harmonieën. Werken van Gerda Blok-Wilson, Veljo Tormis (die ingenieus de volksmuziek uit Estland in zijn composities verwerkt) en Joanna Marsh met Fading en Seeds in flight. The Gesualdo Six staat onder leiding van Owain Park (1993) die naast zanger (in enkele stukken zingt hij de baspartij) ook componist is van o.a. Phos hilaron. Fading is het derde album van The Gesualdo Six en wederom een verbluffend mooi album vol warme en weelderige meerstemmigheid. Een absolute aanrader.

In unprecedented performances we hear the British ensemble The Gesulado Six in religiously oriented compositions on their new album Fading. The core of their repertoire sung a cappella is mainly the music from the compline; the last service of the day in monastic life. We hear pieces from the twelfth to the twenty-first century.

The British, traditionally masters in performing vocal polyphonic (early) music, also excel in optima forma on the new album by The Gesualdo Six. Six singers: two countertenors (high male voices that are doubled), tenor, baritone and bass. These vocalists have an incredibly beautiful and majestic unanimity in the performance, in which they excellent shows the respect for these wonderful compositions. In a mixed repertoire they sing with contrasting timbres that unfold from the 12th century to the 21st century, including works by Hildegard van Bingen, Gesulado and Tallis (Te lucis ante terminum: psalm for the closing of the day). We also hear pieces by Sarah Rimkus (1990) My heart is like a singing bird: a commissioned composition with daring harmonies. Works by Gerda Blok-Wilson, Veljo Tormis (who ingeniously incorporates folk music from Estonia into his compositions) and Joanna Marsh with Fading and Seeds in flight. The Gesualdo Six is ​​led by Owain Park (1993) who is besides singer (in some pieces he sings the bass part) also a composer of Phos hilaron. Fading is The Gesualdo Six’s third album and yet again a stunningly beautiful CD to cherish. An absolute must have!
