‘And if you will come to me’ is de titel van het nieuwe album van de Israëlische zanger en liedjesschrijver Idan Raichel. Een fascinerend project waar hij in elk lied (soms met gastmusici) een nieuwe, persoonlijke sfeer creëert die varieert van pop tot Cubaans, Indiaas en Noord-Afrikaans.

Idan Raichel is een gevierde ster in zijn geboorteland Israël waar hij al jaren succes heeft met zijn Idan Raichel Project. Hij zingt in het Hebreeuws, veel zelf geschreven stukken. Muzikaal is hij beslist niet eenkennig, wat tot uiting komt in de vele stijlen die doorklinken in zijn muziek. Op zijn vorige album ‘Quarter to six’ hoorden we hem nog met de Portugese fado-zangeres Ana Moura, de Malinese zanger/gitarist Vieux Farka Touré en de in New York wonende Colombiaanse (cumbia) zangeres Marta Gómez. Ook zijn nieuwe album ‘And if you will come to me’ is weer een echte ‘Idan Raichel CD’. Pakkende en verzorgde popliedjes die goed in het gehoor liggen, die blijven door-zingen in je hoofd. Zijn muziek is geraffineerd, want in strakke arrangementen voegt hij op inventieve wijze samples en kleine ornamenten toe die de muziek ver boven het gemiddelde laat uitstijgen. Naast veel zelf gezongen liedjes, zijn er ook enkele gastzanger(essen)s te vinden op deze nieuwe CD. We horen de immens populaire Israëlische zangeres Zehava Ben in een lied waarin ze innemend zingt over een gebroken liefde. In ‘La Eternidad que se Perdió’ zingt de Cubaanse zangeres Danay Suarez (in het Spaans) met een heerlijk rauw randje. ‘Lama Ze Magi’s Lanu’ heeft een knappe melodie die eindeloos lijkt, gezongen door Berry Sakharof. Een Israëlisch nationale grootheid, gitarist en zanger die al zo’n 40 jaar meedraait in de Israëlische pop en rock-scene. Verderop horen we de woestijnblues van Bombino, waar dit nieuwe Raichel-album gaat schuren en kraken met de rauwe stem van deze Noord-Afrikaanse zanger en gitarist uit Niger, met een lekker vette saxsolo van Uriel Weinberger. De afsluiter is een ontwapenende piano-versie van ‘And if you will come to me’ (‘Ve’Eem Tavo’ee Elayhet’). Voor wie het allemaal live wil meemaken kan in ieder geval op 3 maart 2019 terecht in De Melkweg van Amsterdam.

‘And if you will come to me’ is the title of the new album by Israeli singer/songwriter Idan Raichel. He creates a new, personal atmosphere that varies from pop to Cuban, Indian and North African music in this fascinating project, assisted with some guest musicians.

Idan Raichel is a celebrated star in his native Israel where he has been successful for years with his Idan Raichel Project. He sings in Hebrew, many self-written songs. His music is influenced by many styles that lovely resonates in his music. On his last album ‘Quarter to Six’ he worked with the Portuguese fado singer Ana Moura, the Malinese singer / guitarist Vieux Farka Touré and the Colombian (cumbia) singer Marta Gómez, who lives in New York. His new album ‘And if you will come to me’ is another real ‘Idan Raichel CD’. Catchy pop songs that are great to listen to, that keep on singing in your head. His music is refined, because of the tight arrangements, the added samples and small ornaments that puts the music far above the average. In addition, he invited some fine guest singer(s). We hear the immensely popular Israeli singer Zehava Ben in a song in which she singularly sings about a broken love. In ‘La Eternidad que se Perdió’ the Cuban Danay Suarez sings (in Spanish) with a fine raw edge. ‘Lama Ze Magi’s Lanu’ has a beautiful melody that seems to be endless, sung by Berry Sakharof. An Israeli national star, guitarist and singer who has been in the Israeli pop and rock scene for about 40 years. Further on we hear the desert blues by Bombino. He puts the new Raichel album into a rub and crack sound with the lovely raw voice of this North African singer and guitarist from Niger, with a nice and cool sax solo by Uriel Weinberger. The closing is an intense piano version of  the title song ‘And if you will come to me’ (‘Ve’Eem Tavo’ee Elayhet’).
