De nieuwe CD ‘Muy Hermosa es Maria’ van het ensemble Música Temprana bevat eeuwenoude villancicos uit Ecuador. Deze stukken werden rond 1700 gecomponeerd in west-europese traditie en hebben eeuwenlang verborgen gelegen in de stad Ibarra (Ecuador), ten noorden van de hoofdstad Quito.

Af en toe worden er in Zuid-Amerika oude manuscripten en partituren ontdekt met prachtige klassieke werken die jarenlang verborgen lagen. Zo verscheen in 2005 het album ‘Bolivian Baroque’ (Channel Classics) van het ensemble Florilegium met Barokmuziek uit Bolivia. De muziek die te horen is op dit album komt van de partituren die werden ontdekt in diverse kerken door musicoloog Piotr Nawrot in het oosten van Bolivia. Iets soortgelijks is het geval bij de muziek op de prachtige CD ‘Muy Hermosa es Maria’. Polyfone vocale villancicos, religieuze liederen die refereren aan kerst en de maagd Maria. Deze worden vakkundig uitgevoerd door Musica Temprana onder leiding van Adrián Rodríguez Van der Spoel. Een muzikaal leider en arrangeur die naast de villancios ook traditionele liederen bewerkte en deze toevoegde aan het repertoire op deze nieuwe CD. The new CD ‘Muy Hermosa es Maria’ from the ensemble Música Temprana contains centuries-old villancicos from Ecuador. These pieces were composed around 1700 in Western European tradition. For centuries the scores have been hidden in the city of Ibarra (Ecuador), north of the capital Quito.

Occasionally old manuscripts and scores are discovered in South America with beautiful classical compositions that have been hidden for years. For example, in 2005 the album ‘Bolivian Baroque’ (Channel Classics) was released of the ensemble Florilegium with Baroque music from Bolivia. That music on that album comes from the scores that were discovered by musicologist Piotr Nawrot in various churches in the east of Bolivia. Something similar is the case with the music on the beautiful CD ‘Muy Hermosa es Maria’. Polyphonic vocal songs, the villancicos, religious songs that refer to Christmas and the Virgin Mary. These are expertly sung and played by Musica Temprana under the direction of Adrián Rodríguez Van der Spoel. A musical leader and arranger who, in addition to the villancios, also edited traditional songs to the repertoire. Noteworthy are the vocal qualities of Música Temprana. The vocalists, who vary from soprano to bass, are of great singers.
