Persoonlijk werk van Sosa & Cañizares

Weinig CD’s spreken zo tot de verbeelding als het album ‘Aguas’ van pianist Omar Sosa en violiste/zangeres Yilian Cañizares. Twee musici uit Cuba, twee eigenzinnige muzikanten die beiden hun sporen binnen de innovatieve tak van Cubaanse muziek hebben verdiend. Op ‘Aguas’ bundelen ze hun talent, spelen ze hun eigen stukken en worden ze bijgestaan door percussionist Inor Sotolongo.

Op zeer subtiele en persoonlijke wijze interpreteren pianist Omar Sosa en violiste/zangeres Yilian Cañizares de muziek van hun thuisland Cuba, aangevuld met jazz en klassieke muziek. Met zorg klinken er open gearrangeerde stukken die gespeeld worden op slechts drie instrumenten: piano (met elektronica), viool (met elektronica), percussie. In enkele stukken horen we de vocalen van Yilian die met haar volwassen stemgeluid een genot is voor de luisteraar, zingend in het Engels, Frans en Spaans. Beiden musici komen op deze nieuwe CD, waarvoor ze samen alle stukken schreven, solistisch mooi aan bod. Het album ‘Aguas’ is opgedragen aan Water: de verbinding van Omar Sosa en Yilian Cañizares met hun geboorte-eiland Cuba. Deze metafoor staat voor de basis van het leven, en daarmee voor de basis van deze fraaie muziek die zo puur en gepassioneerd wordt gebracht.

Just a few CDs speak to the imagination like the album ‘Aguas’ by pianist Omar Sosa and violinist / singer Yilian Cañizares. Two quirky musicians from Cuba who are both innovators of Cuban music. On ‘Aguas’ they bundle their talent, play their own pieces and are assisted by percussionist Inor Sotolongo.

In a very subtle and personal way, pianist Omar Sosa and violinist / singer Yilian Cañizares interpret the music of their homeland Cuba, supplemented with jazz and classical music. With ease they play open arranged pieces ‘only’ on three instruments: piano (with electronics), violin (with electronics), percussion and in some parts the lovely vocals of Yilian, singing in English, French and Spanish. Both musicians co-write all the pieces and play wonderful solo’s. The album ‘Aguas’ is dedicated to Water: the connection of Omar Sosa and Yilian Cañizares with their home island Cuba. This metaphor stands for the basics of life, and thus for the basic of this beautiful music which is played so passionate and pure.
