Fluitist Ronald Snijders is al jaren de innovator van kaseko- en kawinajazz, die hij onlosmakelijk met elkaar verbindt. Op zijn nieuwe CD ‘The Nelson & Djosa Sessions’ gaat hij nog een stapje verder en haalt er (afro)funk, Afrikaanse en Braziliaanse invloeden bij, en doet dat met internationale gerenommeerde artiesten uit Colombia, Mali, de VS, Israël, Nigeria, Brazilië en Engeland.

Ronald Snijders is een wereldmuzikant, een fluitist die geen enkele fusie uit de weg gaat. Een musicus die met klinkend gemak diverse stijlen mengt tot zijn eigen universele mix. Dat ‘universele‘ geldt zeker voor zijn laatste album ‘The Nelson & Djosa Sessions’. Nummers die Snijders in de jaren ’70 op L.P. zette zijn opnieuw geproduceerd door Nelson & Djosa. Een Rotterdams producersduo dat o.a. furore maakte met zangeres Ntjam Rosie. De opnames werden in Nederland gemaakt met muzikanten die op dat moment in Nederland waren. Zo speelde hij o.a. met de Braziliaanse band Azymuth, de Malinese n’goni-speler Bassekou Kouyaté, de Nigeriaanse saxofonist Orlando Jullius en trompettist Avishai Cohen uit New York. De veelheid en variatie aan muzikanten garandeert een scala aan stijlen die door het fluitspel onmiskenbaar Snijderiaans blijft. Fraai hoe hij zijn Surinaamse achtergrond onlosmakelijk verbindt met zijn muziek, zijn solo’s, zijn thema’s en melodieën. Strak gespeeld, vol kleine ornamenten wat het spel verrijkt en zelfs onstuimig maakt. Veel instrumentaal werk, maar ook vocale stukken waarop zangeres Dwight Trible, Amy Sacko en zanger Ed Motta te horen zijn. De ‘The Nelson & Djosa Sessions’ is een goed geproduceerd album dat door zijn natuurlijke aanpak een spontane en ongedwongen indruk achterlaat.

Ronald Snijders zal optreden tijdens de Dutch Delta Sounds op 6 en 7 september 2016 in Amsterdam in het Bimhuis en de Paradiso-Noord. Een festival met een actuele mix van avontuurlijke muziek uit alle windstreken die geworteld is in de Nederlandse bodem. For years the Dutch flute player Ronald Snijders has been an innovator of the Surinam kaseko and kawina jazz. On his new CD ‘The Nelson & Djosa Sessions’ he also put (afro) funk, African and Brazilian influences in his music. He worked with internationally renowned artists from Colombia, Mali, USA, Israel, Nigeria, Brazil and England.

Ronald Snijders is really a world musician, a flute player who loves to mix music. He easily creates a great sound into his own universal mix. The word ‘universal‘ certainly applies to his latest album ‘The Nelson & Djosa Sessions’. Songs he record in the 70’s on his Long Play Record are reproduced by Nelson & Djosa. A Rotterdam based producers duo who had success with singer Ntjam Rosie. Ronald Snijders recorded the album with musicians who were in the Netherlands, like the Brazilian band Azymuth, the Malian n’goni player Bassekou Kouyaté, the Nigerian saxophonist Orlando Jullius and trumpet player Avishai Cohen from New York. The multitude and variety of these musicians guarantees a range of styles that remain unmistakably really Snijderiaans by the flute he plays. Beautifully how he connect his Surinamese background to his music, his solos and his fine melodies. Tightly played, full of sparkling ornaments that enriches the music and makes it even boisterous. Ont this record there are many instrumental works, but also vocal pieces which singer Dwight Trible, Amy Sacko and singer Ed Motta are to be heard. ‘The Nelson & Djosa Sessions’ is a well produced CD that has become, by its natural approach, a spontaneous and unforced one.
