Zanger en pandereito (tamboerijn)speler Davide Salvado komt uit het prachtige Galicië (Noord-West Spanje), waar de pelgrimsroute eindigt in zijn woonplaats Santiago de Compostella. Op zijn nieuwe album ‘Lobos’ (Wolven) verwerkt deze muzikant de diepgewortelde folktraditie in zijn muziek, met veel gebruik van bijzondere zang en hand percussie.

Baskenland, Austurias en Galicië zijn enkele noordelijke provincies van Spanje waar moderne folk vandaan komt. Groepen en artiesten als Xosé Manuel Bodino, Milladoiro, Mercedes Péon, Berrogüeto, Leilia, Kepa Junkera of Susana Seivana spelen hoog gekwalificeerde muziek en genieten internationale bekendheid. Davide Salvado kan moeiteloos worden toegevoegd aan deze Spaanse Folk Hall-of-Fame. Zijn werk is folk georiënteerd, vernieuwend en heeft dat onmiskenbaar Galicisch timbre, dat zeker in zijn stem zeer herkenbaar is. Hij zingt traditionele stukken die voorzien zijn van nieuwe teksten gearrangeerd voor (bas)gitaar, sax, viool, trompet, harp, accordeon en percussie. Onbevangen vertaalt hij het muzikaal verleden naar het heden dat resulteert in innovatieve folk. Salvado is een bevlogen zanger en speelt op allerlei kleine hand percussie zoals de typische Galisische tamboerijn (pandereito), solo te horen in ‘Só‘ (Alleen). Prachtig zijn ‘Muñeira Maronda‘, ‘Helena‘ met een knipoog naar de tango, het jazz georiënteerde ‘Gora’ en het levendige ‘A Vida‘ met de hang (Zwitserse klankschaal) en de grallas (soort schalmei). Er is bovendien veel aandacht besteed aan het uitklapbare CD-hoesje dat tien kaartjes met prachtige foto’s bevat. Op elk kaartje staat aan de ene kant de Galisische tekst/bezetting en aan de andere kant een foto uit Galicië. Een innemend poëtische combinatie waardoor ‘Lobos‘ nog meer tot de verbeelding spreekt.

Davide Salvado is singer and pandereito (tambourine) player from beautiful Galicia (North-West Spain), where the pilgrim route ends in his hometown of Santiago de Compostela. This musician recorded the deep-rooted folk traditions on his new album ‘Lobos‘ (Wolves).

Basque Country, Asturias and Galicia are some provinces of northern Spain where modern folk comes from. Bands and artists like Xosé Manuel Bodino, Milladoiro, Mercedes Peon, Berrogüeto, Leilia, Kepa Junkera or Susana Seivana play high-quality music and are international well known. Davide Salvado can be effortlessly added to this Spanish Folk Hall-of-Fame. His work is folk-oriented, innovative and has an unmistakable Galician timbre, especially in his voice it’s very recognizable. He sings traditional songs with new lyrics that have been arranged for bass, guitar, sax, violin, trumpet, harp, accordion and percussion. He transforms the past into the present which becomes innovative folk. Salvado is a passionate singer and plays various small hand percussion such as the typical Galician tambourine (pandereito), played solo in ‘Só‘ (Alone). Beautifully songs are ‘Muñeira Maronda’,’Helena’ with a tango edge, the jazz-oriented ‘Gora‘ and the vivid ‘A Vida‘ with the use of the hang (Swiss tone scale) and the grallas (kind of shawn). Also the CD case has been made with care. It contains ten cards with beautiful pictures. One side is for the Galician lyrics and musicians and on the other you find a wonderful picture of Galicia. An endearing poetic combination which makes ‘Lobos‘ even more desirable.
