Zangeres Marta Gómez wordt geboren in Colombia waar ze haar eerste muzieklessen krijgt van haar moeder en opvalt in het plaatselijk kinderkoor. Uiteindelijk studeert ze cum laude af aan het Berklee College of Music in New York en woont tegenwoordig in Barcelona. Voor wie haar nog niet kent; haar nieuwste cd ‘Contigo’ (‘Met Jou’) biedt een overzicht.

Verzamel-cd’s geven vaak een te persoonlijke kijk op een land, stijl of artiest. Bij het compilatie album ‘Contigo’ van zangeres Marta Gómez is dat niet anders. Er staan stukken op van slechts drie cd’s, terwijl ze er tussen 2001 en 2013 zes officieel uitbracht. De kinder-cd ‘Canciones de Luna’ en haar beste ‘Entre Cada Palabra‘ zijn buiten beschouwing gelaten. Hoe dan ook: Marta Gómez is een van de beste zangeres van het Zuid-Amerikaanse lied. Zij heeft een prachtig heldere stem, een fris en ontwapenend timbre en zingt verschillende stijlen. Zo horen we uit haar geboorteland Colombia de cumbia en bambuco, uit Argentijnië de zamba en de Peruviaanse festejos en de Chileense cueca komen voorbij. Ze schrijft alle muziek, prachtige melodieën, waarbij de kenmerken van elke stijl als een zeefdruk door de muziek  zweven. Soms heel subtiel dan weer vet en vol zoals in de cumbia ‘Chacharra’, die alleen wordt begeleid op percussie zoals dat van oorsprong gebeurde op de Atlantische stranden van Colombia. Zelf speelt ze gitaar en wordt bijgestaan op bas, fluit en percussie (en piano). Een sobere bezetting waar met slimme arrangementen het maximale wordt bereikt. Maar het is toch vooral de immens mooie stem van Marta die beklijft en voor wie haar nog niet kent, is deze ‘Contigo’ toch een mooie kennismaking.

Singer Marta Gómez was born in Colombia. She got her first music lessons from her mother and was noticed at the children’s choir. She studied in New York at the Berklee College of Music and lives now in Barcelona. For those who don’t know her yet, ‘Contigo’ (‘With You’) gives a nice overview.

On ‘Contigo’ we only find songs from three albums of Marta Gómez, although she recorded six official cd’s between 2001 and 2013. A pity there’s no song of her children’s album ‘Canciones de Luna’ and the wonderful ‘Entre Cada Palabra‘ on this compilation. However: Marta Gómez is one of the finest singer of the South American song. She has a wonderful clear voice, fresh and disarmed. She sings very natural in different styles. From her birth country Colombia we hear the cumbia and bambuco, from Argentina the zamba and from Peru the festejos. She composed all the songs, with lovely melodies. They are like a watermark in several styles. For example the cumbia ‘Chacharra’, played only on acoustic percussion like the original one’s on the Atlantic coasts of Colombia. Marta plays guitar and is assisted by bass, flute and percussion (and piano). A sober instrumentation which brings the maximum of music, played through clever arrangements. But the main is Marta’s voice which is amazing. For those who don’t know her yet, this is your chance!
