‘And the Moon Shines On’ is de debuut cd van Vinsky, een groep geïnitieerd door multi musicus Zoli Soos. Een singer/songwrtiter die na het uiteenvallen van zijn band Vinsky Projekt nieuwe liedjes is gaan schrijven tegen een brede muzikale achtergrond. Een theatrale selectie gespeeld op akoestische instrumenten met een vleugje elektronica.

Zoli Soos wordt geboren in Hongarije. Studeert aanvankelijk slagwerk/lichte muziek, maar uiteindelijk rondt hij zijn studie compositie/muziek productie Cum Laude af aan de HKU. Vanaf dat moment is hij actief met verschillende groepen zoals het Zorita, Vinsky – en het Barbar Project en schrijft hij muziek voor theater. Zoli Soos componeert toegankelijke stukken die we ook terugvinden op deze eerste cd ‘And the Moon Shines On’ van zijn nieuwe band Vinsky. Muziek met een theatraal karakter, beeldende muziek die allerlei associaties oproept. Hij maakt gebruik van een vaste bezettingen zang, (bas)gitaar, cello en percussie, in enkele stukken aangevuld met trompet en accordeon. Mooi hoe subtiel hoorbaar de Oost-Europese (Hongaarse) folk signatuur doorklinkt in zijn muziek en als een rode draad door de composties zweeft – met een vette knipoog naar Bulgarije in de solo ‘Tuvalu’ gespeeld door gast accordeonist Kay Krijnen. De meeste liedjes worden fraai gezongen door Aleksandra Popovska en Zoli Soos, respectievelijk in het Engels en Hongaars. Onregelmatige ritmiek, abrupte muzikale wendingen en bijzondere instrument combinaties geven deze debuut cd een fraai karakter. Minder interessant zijn de Braziliaans georiënteerde stukken die wat licht voortkabbelen. ‘And the Moon Shines On’ is een persoonlijk album waarin Soos mijmert over alledag: ‘Laten we dromen, terwijl we wakker zijn’, zo zingt hij in ‘Carpe Diem’. Een fictieve vlucht uit de werkelijk die verdomd mooie muziek oplevert!

‘And the Moon Shines On’ is the début cd of Vinsky, the group initiated by multi talented musician Zoli Soos. A singer/songwriter who started writing new songs after the split of the Vinsky Projekt. On ‘And the Moon Shines On’ we’ll find a theatrical selection of songs played on acoustic instruments with a few electronics.

Zoli Soos was born Hungary. At the beginning he studied percussions but got his exam (cum laude) in composition and music production at the HKU. From that moment on he was an active composer in the groups Zorita, Vinsky – and the Barbar Project and composed music for theatre. Zoli Soos is an accessible writer of lovely music find on his first album ‘And the Moon Shines On’ form his band Vinsky. Music with a theatrical character. He used the voice, (bass)guitar, cello and percussion and add sometimes the trumpet or the accordion. Lovely how subtle the East European (Hungarian) folk music floats into music with an eye wink to Bulgaria by the accordion of guest musician Kay Krijnen (‘Tuvalu’). Most of the songs are wonderful sung by Aleksandra Popovska and Zoli Soos, in English and Hungarian. Abrupt movements, irregular rhythms and fresh instrumentations gives the music it’s special sauce. Less interesting, though, are the Brazilian influences in a few songs. ‘And the Moon Shines On’ is a personal album on which Soos fancy about every days life: ‘Lets dream, while we are awake’, he sings in ‘Carpe Diem’. A fictive flee from reality which brings lovely music!
