Waar de tango ophoudt, begint de muziek van La Sieste du Dromadaire. Een groep uit België die op innovatieve wijze deze Zuid Amerikaanse muziek verwerkt tot een geheel eigen stijl. Rond de bandoneon horen we Noord Afrikaanse en Oriëntaalse invloeden die de tango in een nieuw perspectief plaatst.

De muziek van La Sieste du Dromadaire beweegt op het snijvlak van de tango. De bandoneon, de viool, strakke ritmen en de vitale thematiek brengen de Argentijnse muziek heel dichtbij. Maar er is meer. De gitaar is terug, een instrument dat jarenlang niet te vinden was in de tango. Sieste du Dromadaire gebruikt de elektrische variant die in ‘El Tanguero’ even los gaat en in ‘Tucu-Tucu Superstar’ (met prachtig Ethiopisch thema) wel heel mooi schittert. Nieuw zijn ook de ritme instrumenten, die heel subtiel en met mate worden gebruikt. Afrikaanse trommels, de udu (kleipot), daf (frame trommel), rasp of cajon (percussie kistje) geven de muziek een Afrikaans/Arabische kleur. Wars van stijlen gaat dit Belgische gezelschap geheel zijn eigen muzikale weg met steeds de tango op de achtergrond. Het gebruik van chromatiek en heerlijk onverwachte harmonische wendingen brengen je veel verder dan Argentinië. Sieste du Dromadaire werd opgericht eind 2011 door de in Brussel wonende violiste Ananta Roosens (foto) die alle stukken schreef voor het debuut ‘Tango from a Dromedary Point of View’. Een gevarieerd album dat uitblinkt originaliteit en de ‘Tango Nuevo’ nóg nieuwer maakt!

Where the tango stops, starts the music of La Sieste du Dromadaire. A Belgium group which transforms this Argentinian music to a new special style. With the bandoneon in the centre we hear African and Oriental influences that puts the tango in a new perspective.

The music of La Sieste du Dromadaire balance on the tango rim. The bandoneon, the violin, tight rhythms and the vital theme’s bring the Argentinian music very close. But there is more. The guitar is back, which was not in the tango for years.  Sieste du Dromadaire use the electric one: freely played in ‘El Tanguero’ and even more exciting in ‘Tucu-Tucu Superstar’ with a wonderful Ethiopian theme. Also new are rythym instruments. Used modestly and very subtle. African small drums, udu (clay pot), daf (frame drum), guiro or cajon (percussion box) give the music it’s African/Arabian flavour. This Belgium ensemble takes her own musical path with the tango in the background. The use of chromatic and lovely harmonic progressions brings the music much further than Argentina. Sieste du Dromadaire was founded at the end of 2011 by the in Brussels living violin player Ananta Roosens (photo) who composed all the music for the debut cd ‘Tango from a Dromedary Point of View’. A varied album, exceeding in originality and even more exciting than the ‘Tango Nuevo’!
