Op haar debuut-album Lebenswanderung speelt pianiste Alexandra Kaptein een fraaie collectie bewerkingen van Franz Liszt. Transcripties die Liszt componeerde van liederen van Franz Schubert en Robert Franz.

Pianist Alexandra Kaptein (1999) heeft een trefzeker touché. Haar spel bezit een opmerkelijke, organische veerkracht, is soepel en doorleefd. Als 5-jarig kind begon ze met pianolessen en won een jaar later de eerste prijs in Duitsland tijdens het pianoconcours Jugend musiziert. Daarna volgden het Von Bremen Pianoconcours, de EPTA International Piano Competition en de International Piano Competition for Young Musicians in Enschede waar ze ook de eerste prijs won. Inmiddels is ze uitgegroeid tot een groot pianiste. Ze studeerde cum laude af aan het ArtEZ  Conservatorium in Zwolle, studeerde muziektheorie in Den Haag en tegenwoordig volgt ze lessen bij Frank van de Laar voor haar 2de Master.

Op het debuut-album Lebenswanderung speelt Kaptein 12 liederen van Franz Schubert en 12 van de minder bekende Robert Franz (die toch zo’n 300 liederen componeerde). Alle stukken zijn door Liszt (1811-1886) bewerkt tot Lieder Ohne Worte (Liederen zonder woorden). Deze legendarische pianist en componist schreef veel composities: piano-concerten, koorwerken, piano sonates en piano solostukken, zoals het ongeëvenaarde Années de Pèlerinage. Zo’n 23 werken die hij componeerde tijdens de reizen die hij met zijn verloofde Marie d’Agoult maakte rond 1835/’38 door Zwitserland en Italië. Maar Liszt arrangeerde dus ook werken van Schubert, Franz, Beethoven en van opera-componisten, waaronder Wagner, Bellini, Donizetti en Verdi.

Op Lebenswanderung neemt Kaptein je mee op een intrigerende levenswandeling. In alle rust vertelt ze haar oprechte en eerlijke muzikale verhaal. Nergens klinkt de muziek haastig of jachtig. Steeds neemt ze de tijd om harmonie, melodie en dynamiek uit te kristalliseren en te verenigen tot een natuurlijk verhaal, hier en daar zelfs tot orkestrale hoogten. Zo word je meegevoerd op een (innerlijke) muzikale reis die niet alleen bijzonder knap wordt uitgevoerd, maar ook nog eens betoverend mooi is!

On her debut album Lebenswanderung, pianist Alexandra Kaptein plays a beautiful collection of arrangements by Franz Liszt. Transcriptions that Liszt composed of songs by Franz Schubert and Robert Franz.

Pianist Alexandra Kaptein (1999) has a splendid touché. Her music has a remarkable, organic resilience, is supple and lived-in. As a 5-year-old child she started piano lessons and a year later she won first prize in Germany at the piano competition Jugend musiziert. This was followed by the Von Bremen Piano Competition, the EPTA International Piano Competition and the International Piano Competition for Young Musicians in Enschede, where she also won the first prize. In the meantime, she has grown into a great pianist. She graduated cum laude from the ArtEZ Conservatory in Zwolle, studied music theory in The Hague and is currently taking lessons with Frank van de Laar for her 2nd Master.

On his debut album Lebenswanderung, Kaptein plays 12 songs by Franz Schubert and 12 by the lesser-known Robert Franz (who composed some 300 songs). All the pieces were arranged by Liszt (1811-1886) into Lieder Ohne Worte (Songs without words). This legendary pianist and composer wrote many of his own works: piano concertos, choral works, piano sonatas and piano solo pieces, such as the unparalleled Années de Pèlerinage. On Lebenswanderung, Kaptein takes you on an intriguing walk through life. She tells her sincere and honest musical story in all tranquility. Nowhere does the music sound hasty or rushed. She always takes the time to crystallize harmony, melody and dynamics and unite them into a natural story, here and there even to orchestral heights. In this way you are taken on an (inner) musical journey that is not only performed exceptionally well, but is also enchantingly beautiful!
