In een unieke combinatie horen we de harp en bandoneon van Julie & Andreas. Op onnavolgbare wijze brengen ze muzikale vertellingen op hun nieuwe album ENE FAVN.

Julie & Andreas Rosketh, broer en zus uit Noorwegen die in 2021 hun prachtige eerste album Sildring uitbrachten van het drie-luik ENE. ENE FAVN is het tweede deel, dat later wordt vervolgd met NÆVÆR. In een wonderlijke combinatie van harp en bandoneon klinkt uitgebalanceerde muziek, waar de tokkel-signatuur voortreffelijk past bij de lange klanken van de bandoneon.

Beiden instrumenten voeren met elkaar een muzikaal gesprek, waarin ze elkaar aanvullen op contemplatieve wijze. Mijmerend, nadenkend in overwegend harmonische klanken en akkoorden die in elkaar overvloeien, met klankstructuren die langzaam veranderen waardoor de zee lijkt te veranderen van rustig, lieflijk kabbelend water naar onstuimig en zelfs stormachtig geweld. De eigen composities gaan uit van thema’s, waarna enkele variaties volgen. Een compositie-techniek die, naarmate de CD vordert, wat meer wordt losgelaten en het harp-bandoneon-gesprek inventiever, gedurfder en interessanter wordt. Dan zijn het meer de harmonische afspraken die bindend zijn, waardoor improvisatie meer ruimte krijgt en de muziek avontuurlijker en fantasierijker is.

Het album is opgedragen aan diegenen die hun leven lieten op zee. De vissers die niet meer terugkwamen, die de storm trotseerden, maar toch verdronken, zoals muzikaal expressief vertaald in Uvær (Stormachtig weer). Maar de CD ENE FAVN is ook opgedragen aan de achterblijvers, die verder moesten leven, zonder hun dierbaren. Een uitgangspunt dat heeft geleid tot filmische, intieme muziek die door twee bevlogen musici schitterend wordt uitgevoerd.

In a unique combination we hear the harp and bandoneon of Julie & Andreas. They recorded musical stories in an inimitable way on their new album ENE FAVN.

Julie & Andreas Rosketh, brother and sister from Norway, who released their beautiful first album Sildring from a three-part album in 2021. ENE FAVN is the second part, which will later be continued with NÆVÆR. In a wonderful combination of harp and bandoneon, balanced music is heard, where the plucking signature fits perfectly with the long sounds of the bandoneon.

Both instruments have a musical conversation with each other, in which they complement each other in a lovely manner. Musing, contemplative in predominantly harmonic sounds and chords that flow into each other, with sound structures that slowly change, making the sea changing from calm, sweetly rippling water to turbulent to even stormy weather. Their own compositions are based on themes, after which some variations follow. A composition technique that, as the CD progresses, is loosened up and the harp-bandoneon conversation becomes more inventive, daring and more interesting. Then it is the harmonic agreements that are binding, which gives improvisation more space and makes the music more adventurous and imaginative.

The album is dedicated to those who lost their lives at sea. The fishermen who did not return, who braved the storm, but drowned it anyway as musically expressive translated in Uvær (Stormy weather). But the album ENE FAVN is also dedicated to those left behind who have to continue living without their loved ones. A starting point that has led to cinematic, intimate music that is beautifully performed by these two passionate musicians.
