Het Zweedse strijktrio Northern Resonance speelt op hun 2de album Vision Of Three dynamische strijk-folk met een hoog melodieus gehalte.

Het Zweedse strijktrio Northern Resonance bestaat uit viola d’amore speler Anna Ekborg Hand-Ers, Jerker Hans-Ers op hardangfele en nyckelharpa-speler Petrus Dillner. Het zijn dan wel drie strijkinstrumenten (violen) maar allen net even anders dan de in de klassieke muziek gebruikte viool. Zo hebben alle drie de instrumenten resonantie-snaren en de snaren van de nyckelharpa worden ingedrukt door middel van toetsen. De resonantie-snaren klinken mee tijdens het spelen en geven het instrument een bredere en vollere klank, aangezien deze instrumenten (vroeger) vaak solo werden bespeeld tijdens volksfeesten en er enig volume vereist was tijdens het dansen.

Het trio Northern Resonance klinkt strak en compact, waarbij de partijen fraai in elkaar grijpen en elkaar schitterend aanvullen. Diverse speeltechnieken worden gehanteerd, waaronder pizzicato (schitterend intro van Kansas City en No. 1), legato en staccato in vindingrijke arrangementen, waarbij de drie strijkers moeiteloos wisselen van melodie/thema naar begeleiding en omgekeerd. Alles vlijmscherp gespeeld en met bezieling uitgevoerd. Alle stukken zijn door de leden zelf gecomponeerd. In een overweldigende, serene sneltreinvaart klinken Fasterud, F*ck that Car en diverse dansen als Brittas Polska, The Quarantine Waltz en Nobody’s March, hier en daar gelardeerd met een klassiek metier, zoals te horen in het koraal-achtige Voia Lilla Barnet.

Vision of Three is met recht een visie van drie. Van drie bevlogen musici die hun folk-visie eensgezind & optimaal laten resoneren met Northern Resonance.

The Swedish string trio Northern Resonance plays dynamic string folk with a high melodic content on their 2nd album Vision Of Three.

The Swedish string trio Northern Resonance consists of viola d’amore player Anna Ekborg Hand-Ers, Jerker Hans-Ers on hardangfele and nyckelharpa player Petrus Dillner. They may be three string instruments (violins), but they are all slightly different from the violin used in classical music. For example, all three instruments have resonance strings and the strings of the nyckelharpa are pressed by keys. The resonance strings resonate while playing and give the instrument a broader and fuller sound, as these instruments were (in the past) often played solo during folk festivals and some volume was required while dancing.

The trio Northern Resonance sounds tight and compact, with the parts excellent interlocking and complementing each other beautifully. Various playing techniques are used, including pizzicato (gorgeous intro to Kansas City and No. 1), legato and staccato in inventive arrangements, in which the three string players effortlessly switch from melody/theme to accompaniment and vice versa. Everything was played razor sharp and performed with passion. All pieces are composed by the members themselves. Fasterud, F*ck that Car and various dances such as Brittas Polska, The Quarantine Waltz and Nobody’s March are performed at an overwhelming, serene rapid pace, interspersed here and there with a classical métier, as can be heard in the chorale-like Voia Lilla Barnet.

Vision of Three is truly a vision of three: played by three passionate musicians who let their folk vision resonate harmoniously and optimally with Northern Resonance.
