Het Rembrandt Trio gaat op zijn laatste CD Intizar een samenwerking aan met de Iraanse zanger Mohammad Motamedi.

Intizar (Liederen van verlangen) is het derde album waarop het Rembrandt Trio een samenwerking aangaat met een Iraans musicus. Dit keer met de zanger Mohammad Motamedi. Een gevierd musicus die meer dan 20 albums opnam met o.a. het Palestijnse Trio Joubran en Hossein Alizadeh, die we ook tegenkwamen op het album Same self, Same silence dat in 2020 werd uitbracht i.s.m. het Rembrandt Trio.

Het album Intizar heeft een bijzondere ontstaansgeschiedenis. Een geschiedenis waar improvisatie centraal staat. Zanger Mohammad Motamedi putte uit de rijke Iraanse poëzie (zowel traditionele, spirituele en wereldlijke) die hij op het juiste moment inzet, al improviserend, met metrum en melodie over de begeleidingen van het Rembrandt Trio. Het resultaat is verbluffend en biedt een rijke schakering van wonderlijk mooie composities.

Zoals gezegd, werken Rembrandt Frerichs (piano), Tony Overwater (contrabas/violone) en Vinsent Planjer (drums en percussie) al jaren samen met Iraanse musici. Een samenwerking die steeds originele en verrassende muziek oplevert. Op Intizar vinden we zowel traditionele gedichten (van o.a. de filosoof Rumi – 13de eeuw) als modern repertoire, zoals te horen in het lied Bahare Delkash (in een arrangement van Overwater), of het openingsstuk Intizar, dat een diep ontroerend intro heeft, met een duidelijke Armeense signatuur. Het trio wordt bijgestaan door de gastmusici Mythe Helder op viool, celliste Maya Fridman en klarinettist Maarten Ornstein. Veel stukken zijn gecomponeerd door de leden van het trio, i.s.m. met Motamedi. Dat levert eigentijds werk op, met een diepgewortelde inbreng van Motamedi. Een zanger die niet alleen een groot vocaal bereik heeft, maar ook de fraaie en zo herkenbare Iraanse versieringen en variaties schitterend vertolkt. Motamedi heeft een soepele stem, vloeibaar als water, met een grote emotionele zeggingskracht. Onder andere mooi hoorbaar in Kouze Gar, waar zijn vocalen in het slotdeel worden overgenomen door strijkers & klarinet, besprenkeld met sprankelende piano-twinkels. Bijzonder is ook het duo-stuk Dami Ba Gham van percussionist Planjer met Motamedi op een gedicht van Hafez. Poëzie die je ertoe aanzet om, zonder aarzeling, te genieten van elk geluk.

Met Intizar bewijst het Rembrandt Trio maar weer eens dat het koesteren van elkaars cultuur, meer schoonheid oplevert dan het met argwaan benaderen van de verschillen. Een werkwijze die veel politici zou moeten inspireren!

The Rembrandt Trio collaborates with the Iranian singer Mohammad Motamedi on their latest CD Intizar.

Intizar (Songs of Desire) is the third album on which the Rembrandt Trio collaborates with an Iranian musician. This time with the singer Mohammad Motamedi. A celebrated musician who recorded more than 20 albums with, among others, the Palestinian Trio Joubran and Hossein Alizadeh, whom we also encountered on the album Same self, Same silence in collaboration with the Rembrandt Trio, released in 2020.

The album Intizar has a special history. A history where improvisation is the main core. Singer Mohammad Motamedi drew on the rich Iranian poetry (traditional, spiritual and secular) which he uses at the right moment, improvising, with rhythm and melody over the accompaniments of the Rembrandt Trio. The result is stunning and offers a rich variety of wonderfully beautiful compositions.

As mentioned, Rembrandt Frerichs (piano), Tony Overwater (double bass/violone) and Vinsent Planjer (drums and percussion) have been working with Iranian musicians for years. A collaboration that always produces original and surprising music. On Intizar we find both traditional poems (for example by the philosopher Rumi – 13th century) and modern repertoire, as used in the song Bahare Delkash (in an arrangement by Overwater), or the opening piece Intizar, which has a deeply moving intro, with a clear Armenian signature. The trio is assisted by guest musicians Mythe Helder on violin, cellist Maya Fridman and clarinetist Maarten Ornstein. Many pieces were composed by the members of the trio, in collaboration with Motamedi, producing contemporary work with a deep-rooted contribution from Mohammad Motamedi. He has a large vocal range, and beautifully sings the recognizable Iranian ornaments and variations. Motamedi has a supple voice, fluid as water, with great emotional expressiveness, beautifully audible in Kouze Gar, where his vocals are taken over by strings & clarinet in the final movement, sprinkled with sparkling piano twinkles. Also exciting is the duo piece Dami Ba Gham by percussionist Planjer with Motamedi on a poem by Hafez. Poetry that encourages you to enjoy every happiness without hesitation.

With Intizar, the Rembrandt Trio proves once again that cherishing each other’s culture produces more beauty than approaching differences with suspicion. A method that should inspire many politicians!
