La Giusta Distanza is het nieuwe album van accordeonspeler Riccardo Tesi. Een musicus die steeds hoogwaardige muziek componeert en speelt.

De accordeonspeler en componist Riccardo Tesi is al jaren een vooraanstaand musicus binnen de Italiaanse folk. We kwamen hem al tegen in zijn ensemble Bandaitaliana, het Bella Ciao Ensemble (met de fantastische zangeres Lucilla Galeazzi) en het accordeon-ensemble Accordion Samurai met o.a Markku Lepistö uit Finland en Vlaming Didier Laloy.

Tesi is een musicus in hart en nieren die niet stil heeft gezeten tijdens de pandemie. In die periode componeerde hij voor zijn Elastic Trio twaalf stukken voor zijn album La Giusta Distanza (De Juiste Afstand). Het trio bestaat naast hem ook uit snarenspeler Vieri Sturlini en percussionist Francesco Savoretti. Daarnaast wordt hij bijgestaan door zo’n twintig gastmusici op blaasinstrumenten, Arabische luit (ûd), toetsen, marimba, piano, strijkers en vocalen. Het lijkt een vol orkest maar in de arrangementen wordt zeer gedoseerd gebruik gemaakt van de diverse instrument-combinaties.

Zo horen we prachtige tweestemmigheid in Sotto La Cenere en wordt de Arabische luit fraai ingezet in het intro van Couscous e Fasol en is verderop in het stuk ook solistisch te horen. Ricardo Tesi is een romanticus die zeer melodieuze thema’s componeert, waarbij hij ingenieus gebruik maakt van harmonieën en ritmiek. Zoals in het openingsstuk Santiago waar thema’s over-en-door elkaar heen worden gespeeld of het schitterende La Bella Stagione waar de ostinato piano-partij wordt ondersteund door cello en violen tegen een glooiend accordeon-thema, unisono gespeeld met de piano.

De muziek op La Giusta Distanza heeft een heerlijke top-folk-laag die wordt aangevuld met invloeden uit de popmuziek, Zuid-Amerikaanse-, Oriëntaalse en Oost-Europese muziek. Soms duidelijk aanwezig, dan weer heel subtiel verborgen in de arrangementen. De stukken worden hierdoor heerlijk gekruid en zorgen ervoor dat de muziek werelds & avontuurlijk is.

La Giusta Distanza is the new album by accordion player Riccardo Tesi. A musician who always composes and plays high-quality music.

The accordion player and composer Riccardo Tesi has been a leading musician in Italian folk for many years. We have already encountered him in his ensemble Bandaitaliana, the Bella Ciao Ensemble (with the fantastic singer Lucilla Galeazzi) and the accordion ensemble Accordion Samurai with, among others, Markku Lepistö from Finland and Flemish Didier Laloy.

Tesi is a musician at heart who has kept on working in the pandemic period. In that time he composed twelve pieces for his Elastic Trio for the album La Giusta Distanza (The Right Distance). Besides him, the trio also consists of string player Vieri Sturlini and percussionist Francesco Savoretti. In addition, he is assisted by about twenty guest musicians on wind instruments, ûd (Arabic lute), keys, marimba, piano, strings and vocals. It seems like a full orchestra, but the arrangements make very dosed use of the various instrument combinations.

For example, we hear beautiful two-part harmony vocals in Sotto La Cenere and the Arabic lute is beautifully played in the intro of Couscous e Fasol and can also be heard as a soloist later on in the piece. Ricardo Tesi is a romantic musician, who composed very melodic themes in which he makes ingenious use of harmonies and rhythms. Like in the opening piece Santiago, where beautiful themes are played over and over. Or the great piece La Bella Stagione where the ostinato piano part is supported by cello and violins against a rolling accordion theme, played in unison with the piano.

The music on La Giusta Distanza has a wonderful top-folk layer that is supplemented with influences from pop music, South American, Oriental and Eastern European music. Sometimes clearly present, other times very subtly hidden in the arrangements. The pieces are wonderfully mixed and ensure that the music is worldly & adventurous.
