De broers Hartwin & Ward Dhoore maakten samen het innemende folk-album Rodeland, opgedragen aan hun geboortestreek.

Iedereen komt in zijn leven op een punt waar hij of zij terugkijkt op zijn jeugd. De broers Dhoore doen dat met weemoed in de streek Rodeland, ten zuiden van Gent, waar zij hun jeugd doorbrachten, samen met broer Koen. Ze groeiden op in een muzikaal gezin en ontwikkelden zich binnen de Europese folktraditie tot voortreffelijke musici. Als Trio Dhoore brachten ze vier albums uit en gaven daarnaast wereldwijde concerten met diverse musici, in verschillende bezettingen.

Maar nu terug naar (het album) Rodeland. Het land van De Tram, De Schelde, de Steenbakkers, De Stokerij of de Houtem Jaarmarkt. Met melancholie denken de broers Hartwin en Ward er in deze composities aan terug. De geboortegrond waar ze, al improviserend aan de keukentafel van hun ouderlijk huis, op het idee kwamen om een duo-CD op te nemen en uit te brengen onder de naam Siger. Rodeland is nu het klinkende bewijs. Hartwin speelt diatonische accordeon en Ward mandola, gitaar, piano, harmonium en voegt daar hier en daar subtiele soundscapes toe. Op twee traditionals na, zijn alle stukken door de broers gecomponeerd. Instrumentale stukken met verfijnde, welluidende melodieën. Een soort liederen zonder woorden waaruit je kunt opmaken dat hun jeugd veilig, geborgen en onbelemmerd moet zijn geweest. Deze twee musici hebben gevoel voor sfeer en warmte waarmee hun werk is doordrenkt. Vrolijke en soms ongecompliceerde muziek met een hoge dosis nostalgie en heimwee. Met vernuft gebruik van akkoorden, instrumentbeheersing, ritmiek, dynamiek en frasering tillen zij de folk naar een hoger plan waar het vlinders-in-je-buik-gevoel je zelfs even meeneemt naar je eigen jeugd!

The brothers Hartwin & Ward Dhoore recorded the captivating folk album Rodeland, dedicated to their native region.

Everyone comes to a point in their life where you look back on your childhood. The Dhoore brothers do so with melancholy in the Rodeland region, south of Ghent (Belgium), where they spent their youth, together with brother Koen. They grew up in a musical family and developed into excellent musicians within the European folk tradition. As Trio Dhoore they released four albums and also had worldwide concerts with various musicians, in different line-ups.

But now back to (the album) Rodeland. The land of De Tram (Tram), De Schelde (river), de Steenbakkers (The Brick Bakers), De Stokerij or the Houtem Jaarmarkt (fair). The brothers Hartwin and Ward think back to the old day with melancholy, which is translated in these compositions. The birthplace where, while improvising at the kitchen table of their parents’ house, they came up with the idea of recording and releasing a duo CD under the name Siger. Rodeland is now the resounding proof. Hartwin plays diatonic accordion and Ward mandola, guitar, piano, harmonium and adds subtle soundscapes here and there. All but two traditional pieces were composed by the brothers. Instrumental pieces with refined, melodious melodies. A kind of songs without words from which you can conclude that their childhood must have been safe, warm and unfettered. These two musicians have a sense of atmosphere and warmth that permeates their work. Cheerful and sometimes uncomplicated music with a high dose of nostalgia. With ingenious use of chords, instrument control, rhythm, dynamics and phrasing, they lift the folk to a higher level where this lovely music even takes you back to your own youth!
