De twee Belgische muzikanten Florian De Schepper en Pablo Golder treden al zo’n tien jaar op in diverse bands. Nu slaan ze samen een nieuwe folk-weg in, wat resulteert in Loogaroo en het uitbrengen van hun debuut-album Nautilus. Een CD met tien eigen composities waarop de heren gitaar, bouzouki en diatonische accordeon spelen. De stukken variëren van heel toegankelijk tot wat gedurfder werk, zoals La Chiave, waarmee ze met het gebruik van chromatiek en onverwachte harmonieën een fraai stuk muziek laten horen. Maar ook een compositie als Cerbutan, die weliswaar toegankelijker is, ontpopt zich tot een opmerkelijk stuk. Het meesterlijk mooie thema en het gebruik van de saxofoon (wie speelt die?) waarop een tegen de jazz-aanleunende solo wordt gespeeld, geven de compositie een doortastend cachet. Met minimale middelen creëren deze twee musici het maximale. De composities zitten vol timbre-wisselingen, ze swingen, hebben fraaie thematiek en doortastende arrangementen met ruimte voor improvisaties. Loogaroo is een duo dat met hun debuut-album Nautilus een deuk slaat in het toch al zo ruime Vlaamse folkrepertoire. Om dan nog origineel te zijn, moet je wel echt iets in je mars hebben!

Loogaroo is guitarist Florian De Schepper & accordionist Pablo Golder. Tight & original Flemish folk!

The two Belgian musicians Florian De Schepper and Pablo Golder have been performing in various bands for about ten years. Under the name Loogaroo they are taking a new folk path together, resulting in their debut album Nautilus. A CD with ten original compositions on which the gentlemen play guitar, bouzouki and diatonic accordion. The pieces vary from very accessible to more daring work, such as La Chiave, with which they create a beautiful piece of music with the use of chromaticism and unexpected harmonies. But also a composition like Cerbutan, which is more accessible, turns out to be a remarkable piece. The masterfully beautiful theme and the use of the saxophone (who is the sax player?) on which a jazz-leaning solo is played, give the composition a thorough cachet. With ‘only’ two instruments, these two wonderful musicians create the maximum. The compositions are full of timbre changes, they swinging, are full of beautiful themes and bold arrangements with room for improvisation. Loogaroo is an uplifting duo that gives the already extensive Flemish folk repertoire a boost with their debut album Nautilus. These musicians have really something to offer!
