Marcus Klossek speelt elektrische gitaar, op een Fender Telecaster. Op zich niets bijzonders, ware het niet dat deze robuuste gitaar een heel eigen, herkenbare sound heeft met veel dynamische mogelijkheden. Je kunt er zogezegd heel nauwkeurig, precies en accuraat op spelen. Maar dat houdt ook in dat je een nauwkeurige muzikant moet zijn. En dat is precies wat Marcus Klossek is. Hij speelt met een warm, rond, maar ook strak touché, waarmee hij zijn muzikale verhaal met overtuiging vertelt. In tien door hem gecomponeerde stukken, die zich bewegen op het snijvlak van jazz, funk en rock, wordt hij bijgestaan door (elektrisch) bassist Carsten Hein en drummer Derek Scherzer.

Op dit negende album Tales from the Edge blinkt het trio weer uit in markant samenspel, waarin deze musici, met een vanzelfsprekend gemak, de arrangementen kleuren met verfijnde accenten, uitgesproken dynamiek waarbij er veel ruimte overblijft voor solistische passages voor bas, drums en gitaar. Zijn gitaarsound wordt hier en daar ingekleurd met tremolo, fuzzy/vervorming, galm en echo. Zeer gedoseerd in gebruik met als doel het muziekgeluid breder, dieper en interessanter te maken. En dat is met verve gelukt. Nergens zijn de composities echt stijlvast, wat de kracht is van Tales from the Edge. Het zijn de cross-overs, de stijl-bestuivingen die de muziek zo interessant en boeiend maken en ervoor zorgen dat er bij elke luisterbeurt weer nieuwe bijzonderheden opvallen.

Tales from the Edge is the title of the new, well-played album by the Marcus Klossek Electric Trio.

Marcus Klossek plays the electric guitar, a Fender Telecaster. Nothing special you might think, but in fact, this robust guitar has its own, recognizable sound with many dynamic possibilities. You can play it very precisely and accurately, so to speak. But that also means you have to be an accurate musician. And that is exactly what Marcus Klossek is. He plays with a warm, round, but also tight touché, with which he tells his musical story with conviction. On this new album there are ten pieces composed by Klossek, which move on the cutting edge of jazz, funk and rock. He is assisted by (electric) bassist Carsten Hein and drummer Derek Scherzer. Again, the trio excels in striking ensemble playing, in which these musicians, with a natural ease, color the arrangements with refined accents, pronounced dynamics, leaving plenty of room for solo passages for bass, drums and guitar. His guitar sound is colored here and there with tremolo, fuzzy / distortion, reverb and echo. Very dosed in use with the aim of making the music sound wider, deeper and more interesting. And they succeeded with verve. Nowhere are the compositions really stylish, which is the strength of Tales from the Edge. It are the crossovers, the style pollinations that make the music so interesting and fascinating, which makes you listening over and over again!
