Het strak spelende Spaanse trio Viruxe, gitaar, keyboards en drums, brengt op zijn debuut-album een organisch vurige mix van pop en jazz.

Op originele wijze bedient het trio Viruxe zich uit het pop, jazz, funk en jazzrock vaatje. De composities zijn helder van kleur, met open arrangementen. No nonsense muziek, zonder gedoe en geen noot teveel. Op juiste wijze doseren deze drie musici hun werk waardoor de stukken stralen van energie, levendigheid en spelplezier. De verbinde factor is de gitaar García die voortdurend doordrenkt is met een fuzz/vervormend rauw randje, zo nu en dan aangevuld met sustain, waardoor de toon langer doorklinkt. Een effect dat we veel tegenkomen bij het gitaarwerk van Carlos Santana. De gitaarsound is het handelsmerk van Viruxe. Maar pas op, want keyboard-maestro Mourinho en drum-wizard Couceiro dragen zeker bij aan de volledige sound van dit electric trio. Zij zijn de smaakmakers. Stevige ritmes op zowel elektronische als akoestische drums (soms door elkaar heen zoals in Cigarreira Breve) en het krachtige akkoordenwerk op keyboards, piano en orgel zijn fris en voortvarend. Solo’s zijn te horen op alle instrumenten waarbij de musici elkaar volledig de ruimte geven om hun muzikaal verhaal te vertellen, waarbij ze elkaar strak en enerverend ondersteunen en aanvullen. Viruxe speelt eigen werk dat wordt uitgevoerd op hun eigen karakteristieke wijze. Dat is niet alleen behoorlijk lastig maar ook erg knap. Zeker als je bedenkt hoe moeilijk het is om nog op te vallen in een muziekwereld waar al zoveel stijlen en cross-overs zijn ontwikkeld. Hulde!

Great Spanish trio Viruxe, guitar, keyboards and drums, recorded an organically fiery mix of pop and jazz on their debut album.

The Viruxe trio uses pop, jazz, funk and jazz rock in an original way. The compositions are bright in color, with open arrangements. This is really no nonsense music. These three musicians dose their work in the right way, so that the pieces radiate with energy, liveliness and fun. The connecting factor is García’s guitar, which is constantly imbued with a fuzz/distortion raw edge, occasionally supplemented by sustain, which makes the tone last longer. An effect that we encounter a lot with the guitar work of Carlos Santana. The guitar sound is Viruxe’s ​​trademark. But beware, because keyboard maestro Mourinho and drum wizard Couceiro certainly contribute to the complete sound of this electric trio. They are the tastemakers. Solid rhythms on both electronic and acoustic drums (sometimes mixed up as in Cigarreira Breve) and the powerful chord progressions on keyboards, piano and organ are fresh and energetic. Solos can be heard on all instruments, whereby the musicians give each other complete space to tell their musical story, supporting and complementing each other tightly and energetically. Viruxe plays their own compositions, performed in their own characteristic way. That is not only rather difficult to do but also very skillfully. Especially when you consider how hard it is to stand out in a music world where so many different styles and crossovers have already been developed. Tribute to this great band!
