Op Oeverloos combineert de Vlaamse folk-innovator Ward Dhoore zijn composities met schilderijen van Lander Cardon.

Ward Dhoore kwam voor het eerst in beeld met zijn Trio Dhoore tijdens het Schots Weekend in Bilzen in 2013, waar hij optrad met zijn broers Koen en Hartwin. De bevlogenheid en vakmanschap was toen al duidelijk en resulteerde in hun debuut-album Modus Operandi. Ward heeft zich daarna verder ontwikkeld en heeft sinds 2015 zijn eigen opnamestudio samen met Jeroen Geerinck, met wie hij ook het platenlabel Trad Records oprichtte.

Nu is daar een nieuw samenwerkingsverband: Zonderland. Ward liet zich inspireren door het werk van schilder en beeldend kunstenaar Lander Cardon en componeerde acht stukken. Op Oeverloos speelde hij alle partijen zelf, op de saxofoon en bugel na, die respectievelijk door Cardon en Geerinck werden ingespeeld. Thematisch gezien is de muziek eenvoudig van opzet. Maar het zijn de inventieve arrangementen die Oeverloos naar een hoger plan tilt. In een brede opzet klinken piano en (elektrische) gitaar- en ander snaarinstrumentpartijen die gedoseerd en smaakvol worden gelardeerd met galmen, soundscape en synthesizersounds. Bijzonder zijn de stukken: Kaap, Bohan, Skarn en Kade. Filmische muziek gedrenkt in doorwrochte arrangementen. Een fraaie muziek-beeldende-kunst-gedachtewisseling waartussen de fantasie vanzelf alle ruimte krijgt. Werkelijk prachtige muziek!

On Oeverloos (Endless) the Flemish folk innovator Ward Dhoore combines his compositions with paintings by Lander Cardon.

Ward Dhoore first came into the picture with his Trio Dhoore during the Schots Weekend (Scottisch Weekend) at Bilzen (Belgium) in 2013, where he performed with his brothers Koen and Hartwin. The enthusiasm and craftsmanship was already apparent and resulted in their debut album Modus Operandi. Ward has since developed further. Since 2015 he has his own recording studio together with Jeroen Geerinck, with whom he also founded the record label Trad Records.

Now there is a new partnership there: Zonderland. Ward was inspired by the work of painter and visual artist Lander Cardon and wrote eight compositions. For this record Oeverloos he played all parts himself, except for the saxophone and flugelhorn, which were played by Cardon and Geerinck respectively. Thematically, the music is rather elementary. But the inventive arrangements lift Oeverloos to a higher level. Piano and (electric) guitar and other string instrument parts are played in a broad setting, dosed and tasteful larded with reverberations, soundscapes and synthesizer sounds. Very special pieces are: Kaap, Bohan, Skarn and Kade. Cinematic music soaked in elaborate arrangements. A beautiful music-visual exchange of ideas in which the fantasy automatically gets all the space. Really excellent music!
