In 2022 bestaat het Klatwerk3 vijftien jaar. Reden voor het feestelijk dubbelalbum Space Age Suite, waarmee dit trio de ruimte opzoekt.

Pianist Boelo Klat heeft al jaren een fascinatie voor het heelal en de daarbij behorende legendarische series als Star Trek en later Star Wars. De kosmische oneindigheid heeft hij nu vertaald in 2 keer 10 composities op het dubbel-album Space Age Suite. De CD’s zijn in balans: zijn zwart & wit  / Black & White, refereren aan dag & nacht, licht & donker en Yin & Yang. Bovendien hebben beiden albums ongeveer een lengte van 52 minuten. Die dualiteit komt ook tot uiting in zijn muziek die verzorgd klinkt en waar de instrumenten min of meer gelijkwaardig zijn. Waar piano, de bas van Jan Ruerd Oosterhaven en drums van Ancel Klooster elkaar begeleiden in een oneindig metier. Boelo Klat is een bevlogen melodie-kunstenaar. Zijn composities zijn liedjes-zonder-woorden die hij met verve uitvoert en er vervolgens transparant over improviseert. Melodieën die zich met gemak nestelen in je brein. Thema’s die in eerste instantie ietwat voor de hand liggen, maar door o.a. het gebruik van 5- en 7-tels onregelmatige maatsoorten, ostinato ritmiek, plotselinge modulaties en het toevoegen van soundscapes (door Hans Breukel) krijgt de muziek een verrassende dubbele lading. Space Age Suite is een melismatisch album gemaakt op de 0-lijn van het heden: met aan de ene kant terugblikken als Spock, Requiem for an Astronaut, Jupiter, Waltz in Space of Heaven en aan de andere kant de vooruitblikken met Time Travel, Lonely Star of Mysterious Moon. Inspirerend concept met inspirerende muziek!

Celebrating this year 2022 for Klatwerk3 which was founded 15 years ago. Reason for the festive double album Space Age Suite. A wonderful space oriented double-CD.

For years pianist Boelo Klat had a fascination for the universe and the associated legendary series such as Star Trek and later Star Wars. He has now musically translated the cosmic infinity into 2 times 10 compositions on the double album Space Age Suite. The CDs are inbalance: are Black & White, refer to day & night, light & dark and Yin & Yang. Moreover, both albums have a length of approximately 52 minutes. This duality is also reflected in his music. He lovely played his own compositions where the instruments are more or less equal. Where piano, the bass by Jan Ruerd Oosterhaven and drums by Ancel Klooster accompany each other in an infinite metier. Boelo Klat is an inspired melody artist. His compositions are a kind of songs-without-words that he performs with verve and then transparently improvises over them. Melodies that are easy to remember and settle into your brain with ease. Themes that are somewhat obvious at first, but the use of 5- and 7-count irregular time signatures, ostinato rhythms, sudden modulations and the addition of soundscapes (by Hans Breukel) gives the music a surprising double layer. Space Age Suite is a melismatic album created on the zero-line of the present: on one hand looking back in pieces like Spock, Requiem for an Astronaut, Jupiter, Waltz in Space or Heaven and on the other hand looking ahead with Time Travel, Lonely Star or Mysterious Moon. Inspiring concept which brings inspiring music!
