Musicus Sanna Rambags heeft in een korte tijd, met recht, grote bekendheid verworven binnen de Nederlandse jazz-wereld. Nam CD’s op met groepen als Mudita, Free the Voices, Under the Surface en gaf vele concerten in binnen- en buitenland. En toen was daar opeens Covid-19 die het hele concert- en opnamegebeuren abrupt stillegde. Op een goed moment voor Sanne, die, gedwongen, een pas op de plaats moest maken. En die pas, pakt wonderlijk goed uit voor haar. Tijd voor een solo-album Sonna, opgenomen in 2020, uitgebracht op haar eigen platenlabel Sonna Records. Het album is een innerlijke zoektocht naar de dubbele lading van succes. En waar kun je die zoektocht beter starten dan in de stilte en rust van een kerk. Sonna is dus een solo-album waarop alleen haar stem te horen is, opgenomen in de Antonius Abt-kerk in Riel (nabij Tilburg). Vijf uur vocale improvisaties (op het beginstuk At Great Height na) zijn teruggebracht tot 38 korte stukken, hier en daar ondersteund door het geluid van een gure februariwind die om de kerk zwiert, en kerkklokken. Sanne Rambags is echt een vocaal acrobaat die haar stem heerlijk laat zweven en meeliften op de nagalm van de kerk. Ze schildert met haar vocalen een palet van gekleurde improvisaties waarbij ze (ritmisch & fonetisch) zingt, fluistert, weent, kreunt en schreeuwt. Alles wat haar stem te bieden heeft, komt langs. En het mooie is, dat het zo natuurlijk en als-vanzelf klinkt, zo eerlijk en oprecht. Een vocale prestatie die een subtiel religieus laagje in zich draagt, waar je stil van wordt.

In different kind of vocal qualities singer Sanne Rambags shines on her new album Sonna.

Musician Sanna Rambags has rightfully acquired great fame within the Dutch jazz scene in a short period of time. She recorded CDs with groups like Mudita, Free the Voices and Under the Surface and gave many concerts in the Netherlands and abroad. And then suddenly there was Covid-19 which immediately stopped the concert and recording events. At the right time for Sanne. This periode worked out wonderfully well for her. It gave her time to think about her music and the future. In 2020 she released her debut solo album Sonna, on her own record label Sonna Records. The album is an inner quest for the double connotation of success. And which place is better to start the inner search than in the silence and tranquility of a church. Sonna is therefore a solo album on which only her voice can be heard, recorded in the Antonius Abt church in Riel (near Tilburg). Five hours of vocal improvisations (except for the opening piece At Great Height) have been reduced to 38 short pieces, here and there supported by the sound of a stormy February wind whirling around the church and church bells. Sanne Rambags is a real vocal acrobat who lets her voice float, echo and ride on the reverberation of the church. With her vocals she paints a palette of coloured improvisations in which she sings (rhythmically & phonetically), whispers, weeps, moans and screams. Everything her voice has to offer passes. And the great thing is that it sounds so natural and self-evident, so honest, pure and sincere. A vocal performance that has a subtle religious layer in it, which makes you silent.
