Krononaut: bezetting gitaar en drums. Maak je borst maar nat want deze bezetting belooft wat én dat komt er ook. Geïmproviseerde muziek die de randen van de verbeelding opzoekt en er af en toe zelfs overheen kijkt in een oneindige diepte.

Krononaut bestaat uit gitarist, componist en producer Leo Abrahams. Hij woont Londen en werkte o.a. met Adèle en Brian Eno (en aan nog meer dan 300 projecten). Drummer Martin France kwamen we al tegen bij het geweldige Loose Tubes (met o.a. de Britse jazz-pianist Django Bates) en het kwartet van de lyrische Noorse jazzpianist Jan Gunnar Hoff.

Maar nu zijn ze dus samen Krononaut. Weliswaar een duo, maar ze worden bijgestaan door de bassisten Shahzad Ismaily en Tim Harries en door Arve Henriksen en Matana Roberts respectievelijk op trompet en sax. Maar het zijn toch vooral de gitaar en drums die de boventoon voeren en zorgen voor een vibrerend en hilarisch geheel. Beide instrumenten worden breed ingezet. Gitaar met effecten (harmonizer, fuzz, tremolo, galm etc.), steeds op zoek naar nieuwe klanksensaties die zorgen voor een psychedelische sfeer. De drums worden vooral percussief benaderd, waardoor het meer om klank(kleur) dan om ritme gaat. Bijzonder is het trompetwerk van Arve Henriksen dat doet denken aan de sound van trompettist Markus Stockhausen die met o.a. pianist Rainer Brüninghaus in 1984 de legendarische LP Continuum opnam. Op Krononaut horen we o.a. de filmische stukken Wealth of Nations en Power Law, het lyrische Jena naast het kosmopolitische Convocation en het spannende Location 14. Krononaut vergt iets meer van de luisteraar dan gewoonlijk. Maar wie een luistersessie aangaat, wordt getrakteerd op een klanksensatie die nog lang zal nadeinen. Tip: de CD luid afspelen, wel rekening houden met de buren!

Krononaut: instrumentation guitar and drums. Time to get up: this line-up promises something else. Improvised music that explores the edges of the imagination and occasionally even looks over it in an infinite depth.

Krononaut is guitarist, composer and producer Leo Abrahams. He lives in London and has worked with Adèle and Brian Eno (and on more than 300 projects). We already met drummer Martin France in the great Loose Tubes (with, among others, the British jazz pianist Django Bates) and the quartet of the lyrical Norwegian jazz pianist Jan Gunnar Hoff.

But now they are together Krononaut. Although a duo, they are assisted by the bass players Shahzad Ismaily and Tim Harries and by Arve Henriksen and Matana Roberts respectively on trumpet and saxophone. But it is mainly the guitar and drums that predominate and provide a vibrant and hilarious sound. Both instruments are widely used. Guitar with effects (harmonizer, fuzz, tremolo, reverb, etc.), always looking for new sound sensations that provide a psychedelic atmosphere. The drums are mainly approached percussively, so it is more about sound (color) than rhythm. The trumpet work by Arve Henriksen is special, which is reminiscent of the sound of trumpet player Markus Stockhausen, who recorded the legendary LP Continuum in 1984 with piano player Rainer Brüninghaus, among others. On Krononaut we hear the cinematic pieces Wealth of Nations and Power Law, the lyrical Jena next to the cosmopolitan Convocation and the exciting Location 14. Krononaut demands a little more from the listener than usual. But anyone who enters into a listening session, will be treated to a sound sensation that will continue to resonate for a long time to come. Tip: play the music loud, but consider the neighbors!
