Het Italiaanse trio Motus Laevus brengt met ‘Y’ een knappe internationaal georiënteerde CD op de markt. Toetsen, riet- en snaarinstrumenten, aangevuld met gastmusici op percussie, brengt avontuurlijke muziek die je oren doet spitsen en je hart een sprongetje laat maken.

Het album ‘Y’ van Motus Laevus is een groot muzikaal cadeau. Heerlijk ondernemende muziek die alle kanten opvliegt; van de Oriëntaalse signatuur naar Griekse en Turkse klanken door naar Afrikaanse polyritmiek om tenslotte via Kroatië te landen in Slovenië; het land waar musicus Tina Omerzo vandaan komt. Naast een bevlogen pianiste en componiste is zij ook een voortreffelijke zangeres, te horen in het Sloveense liefdeslied Nekaj je na Tebi. De muziek van Motus Laevus is zeer avontuurlijk. Elk nummer is een eilandje op zich met een eigen cultuur en karakteristieke stijlkenmerken. Hierdoor lijkt het wel alsof je naar 7 verschillende CD’s luistert. Is dat erg? Nee, in het geheel niet, maar het geeft wel aan dat we hier te maken hebben met voortreffelijke musici, die hun vak verstaan. De variatie maakt het album ‘Y’ een rijke en bijzondere CD. De Oriënt in Smimeka, Oost-Europa in Gream Paralele, de poly-ritmiek in 3 Days Ago, de folk in A call for the winds en het Frans impressionisme in Novembre.

Motus Laevus bestaat naast Omerzo uit rietblazer Edmondo Romano en gitarist Luca Falomi. Alle drie hebben ze ruimschoots hun sporen verdiend binnen de muziek door middel van componeren, geven (afzonderlijk van elkaar) van concerten, samenwerkingen en CD-opnames (Romano meer dan 140!). Ze worden bijgestaan door percussionist Marco Fedda en slagwerker Rodolfo Cervetto. De naam Motus Laevus betekent in het latijn zoiets als omgekeerde beweging. En dat is nou precies waar ze zo goed in zijn. Dát spelen wat je niet verwacht: afwisselend, boeiend en soms zelfs gewaagd!

The Italian trio Motus Laevus released their album ‘Y’. A great internationally oriented CD. Piano, reeds and (bas) guitar, complemented by guest musicians on percussion, bring adventurous music that makes sparkle your ears and makes your heart jump.

Motus Laevus‘ album ‘Y’ is a great musical gift. Splendid music. Enterprising music that flies in all directions; from the Oriental signature to Greek and Turkish sounds to African polyrhythms and finally to Croatia and Slovenian music influences. The country where musician Tina Omerzo comes from. Besides being an enthusiastic pianist and composer, she is also an excellent singer, who can be heard in the Slovenian love song Nekaj ​​je na Tebi. Motus Laevus‘ music is very adventurous. Each song is an island in itself with its own culture and characteristic style features. This makes it seem like you’re listening to 7 different CDs. Do you think that’s okay? Yes, for sure! It does indicate that we are dealing here with excellent musicians who understand their profession. The variation makes the album ‘Y’ a rich and special CD. The Orient in Smimeka, Eastern Europe in Gream Paralele, the poly-rhythm in 3 Days Ago, the folk signature in A call for the winds, or French Impressionism in Novembre.

Besides Omerzo, Motus Laevus consists of reed player Edmondo Romano and guitarist Luca Falomi. For years these three musicians (apart from each other) compose music, give concerts, have collaborations with different musicians and CD recordings (Romano over 140 collaborations!). They are assisted by percussionist Marco Fedda and drummer Rodolfo Cervetto. The name Motus Laevus means in the Latin language something like reverse movement. And that is exactly what they are so good at. Play what you don’t expect: varied, fascinating and sometimes even daring!
