Het zevende album Hyperlapse van het Franse kwintet OZMA is een zeer opmerkelijke CD. Robuuste muziek, gecomponeerd door drummer Stéphane Scharlé, waar de gitaar van Tam De Villiers en de trombone van Guilaume Nuss centraal staan. Verder horen we saxofonist Julien Soro en bassist Édouard Séro-Guillaume. In tien composities maakt de groep een reis van Beijing naar Purwokerto, met tussenstops in o.a. Hamburg, Marrakech, Mumbai en Lubeck. Geen lokale muziek maar stevige beats, dampende ritmes aangevuld met psychedelische effecten, abrupte wendingen, polyritmiek en ronkende solo’s. Originele composities, doortastend en daadkrachtig. Deze breed georiënteerde muziek past in een film, werkt fantastisch op een live-podium en is uiterst geschikt voor in de huiskamer, mits gedraaid met een behoorlijk volume. Verrassende explosieve jazz, met een dikke knipoog naar de gevestigde muzikale orde. Op deze wijze creëert OZMA een eigen strakke jazzwereld, met hier en daar de perfect geordende chaos. Heerlijk!

On their seventh album Hyperlapse, the French band OZMA presents a musical world tour through Germany, China, Morocco, Mumbai, India and Indonesia. In a beautiful and elaborate explosive funk jazz landscape you will be blown away by these great musicians.

The new album Hyperlapse by the French quintet OZMA is a very remarkable CD. Robust music composed by drummer Stéphane Scharlé. In the center of the music there is Tam De Villiers‘ guitar and Guilaume Nuss’s trombone. We also hear saxophonist Julien Soro and bassist Édouard Séro-Guillaume. In ten compositions, the group makes a trip from Beijing to Purwokerto, with stops in places including Hamburg, Marrakech, Mumbai and Lubeck. No local music but strong beats, steaming rhythms, supplemented with psychedelic effects, abrupt musical round abouts, polyrhythms and striking solos. Original, vigorous and decisive compositions. This broadly oriented music fits into a movie, works great on a live stage and is ideal for the living room, provided it is played with a decent volume. OZMA plays surprising explosive jazz. In this way they create their own tight jazz world, with here and there perfectly ordered chaos. Great music!
