‘Big Eyebrow – Live in Europe’ is het fascinerend klinkend resultaat van Pitch Plot 4. Op vier locaties in Nederland, Frankrijk en Spanje nam dit jazz-kwartet in mei 2015 een strakke set op die laveert op de rand jazz, rock en funk. Vier aan elkaar gewaagde musici die aanvullend musiceren met een volstrekt natuurlijke cohesie.

Pitch Plot 4 is een internationaal door fluitist Jeroen Pek geïnitieerd kwartet i.s.m. de Duitse pianist Christian Pabst, de Amerikaanse bassist James Cammack en de Nederlandse drummer Onno Witte. Vier vakbekwame musici die elkaar muzikaal de ruimte geven. Het resultaat is coherente muziek waarbij ze elkaar aanvullen en het arrangement als een puzzel in elkaar grijpt. Geen ego-tripperij maar de juiste toon op de juiste plaats, wat bijdraagt aan spannende, avontuurlijke en boeiende muziek. Opvallend is het verzorgde spel van pianist Christian Pabst die vooral in zijn solo’s uitblinkt in transparantie. Hij maakt veelvuldig gebruik van sequenzen, waar hij melodische motiefjes herhaalt op verschillende toonhoogten. Zeer herkenbaar en een stijlkenmerk uit de Barok. Fluitist Jeroen Pek is een lyrisch musicus die door middel van diverse fluiten (alt- en basfluit, traverso en zoo-fluit) de diversiteit van dit intense instrument laat horen (soms aangevuld met effecten zoals in ‘Flabbergasted‘) en zowel lieflijk als ‘scheurend’ soleert. De compositie-samenhang op ‘Big Eyebrow – Live in Europe’ is verrassend. Ondanks dat alle leden van Pitch Plot 4 stukken componeerden voor deze live-CD vertoont dit album een compacte samenhang en word je fraai ondergedompeld in stevige en overtuigende muziek!

‘Big Eyebrow – Live in Europe‘ is the fascinating album by Pitch Plot 4. Recorded live in May 2015 at four locations in the Netherlands, France and Spain this jazz quartet plays a tight set on the edge of jazz, rock and funk. Four great musicians who complement each other in a natural cohesion.

Pitch Plot 4 is an internationally quartet initiated by flute player Jeroen Pek together with the German pianist Christian Pabst, the American bass player James Cammack and the Dutch drummer Onno Witte. Four skilled musicians who give space to the music. The result is a coherent sound in which they complement each other. No ego stuff, they just play the right tone at the right place that contributes to exciting, adventurous and exciting music. Striking is pianist Christian Pabst who solos excels in transparency. He uses wonderful sequences, where he repeated melodic patterns at different pitches. Very recognizable and a characteristic style of the Baroque period. Flutist Jeroen Pek is a lyrical musician using various flutes (alto and bass flute, flute and so-flute). He shows the diversity of this wonderful instrument (sometimes supplemented by effects like in ‘Flabbergasted‘) and plays both lovely as ‘daring’ solo’s. The composition consistency at ‘Big Eyebrow – Live in Europe‘ is surprisingly. Despite that all members of Pitch Plot 4 composed pieces for this album, this live CD is a compact consistency one and you’ll easily feel the strong and convincingly music!
