De Belgische gitarist Fabrizio Graceffa laat op zijn nieuwe CD ‘U-Turn‘ een episch verhaal horen. Met zeven musici creëert hij een muzikale levenslijn waarop alle kenmerken voorradig zijn, waar harmonie en disharmonie elkaar prachtig afwisselen die je geleidelijk (rechtsomkeert via de U-turn) weer terugbrengen naar waar je vandaan kwam.

Aanvankelijk speelt Fabrizio Graceffa (1979) vooral blues en rockmuziek, maar als hij de jazz ontdekt neemt hij les, volgt workshops en studeert aan de Brussels Muziekacademie en aan het Luxemburgs Conservatorium. Daar wint hij ook de eerste prijs Jazz Gitaar en Compositie. In 2010 neemt hij het album ‘Stories‘ op met zijn Fabrizio Graceffa Quartet en vier jaar later start hij The Fabrizio Graceffa Band. Een septet dat met de CD ‘U-Turn’ een ommezwaai maakt en zich volledig nestelt binnen de jazz- en geïmproviseerde muziek. Opmerkelijk zijn niet alleen de schitterende composities die er op dit tweede album staan maar ook zijn muzikale rol als gitarist is noemenswaardig. Fabrizio Graceffa geeft zijn mede musici veel muzikale vrijheid, begeleidt sober met een mooie ronde jazzgitaarklank maar laat zijn instrument ook ronken (met een lichte Pink Floyd invloed) in ‘Trois Fois Rien’, en speelt prachtig akoestisch in ‘Neo‘ en het aan Milton Nascimento opgedragen ‘Milton’s Dream‘, een bossa georiënteerde compositie. Maar het zijn toch vooral trompettist Jean Paul Estiévenart en saxofonist Nicolas Kummert die veel ruimte krijgen, (meerstemmig) thema’s spelen, soleren en daarbij stevig worden ondersteund door het innovatieve drumwerk van Teun Verbruggen die steeds een solide basis neerlegt. ‘U-Turn‘ is één thematische doorwerking, één muzikale reis met beeldende muziek die de vele kanten van de menselijke geest belicht. Een album dat de alledaagse stemmingen zoals rust, opwinding, harmonie of stress prachtig muzikaal vertaalt!

On his new CD ‘U-Turn‘ the Belgian guitarist Fabrizio Graceffa tells an epic story. With seven musicians he creates a musical lifeline which features the harmony and disharmony of life. Great music which turns you around and put you back where you came from.

At first Fabrizio Graceffa (1979) played blues and rock music. But when he discovered the jazz he got lessons, did some workshops and studied at the Brussels Academy of Music and at the Luxembourg Conservatory. At Luxembourg he also won the First Prize Jazz Guitar and Composition. In 2010 he recorded the album ‘Stories‘ with his Fabrizio Graceffa Quartet and four years later he started The Fabrizio Graceffa Band. A septet who made a turnaround with the CD ‘U-Turn’ and is fully integrated into jazz and improvised music. Remarkable are the brilliant compositions on this second album. Moreover Fabrizio Graceffa gives a lot of musical freedom to his fellow musicians. He accompanies with a sober and nice full jazz guitar sound but also lets roar his instrument (with a slight Pink Floyd influence) in ‘Trois Fois Rien‘, and plays beautiful acoustic guitar in ‘Neo’ and ‘Milton’s Dream‘, a bossa-oriented composition and a tribute to Milton Nascimento. But it is mainly trumpeter Jean Paul Estievenart and saxophonist Nicolas Kummert who get a lot of musical space. They play wonderful (polyphony) themes, solo’s and thereby they are firmly accompanied  by the innovative drummer Teun Verbruggen which drum work is a solid foundation. ‘U-Turn‘ is a musical journey with evocative music that highlights the many down periods of the human spirit. An album that everyday moods such as rest, excitement, stress or harmony translates to a wonderful musical experience!
