De Nederlands/Italiaanse zanger/gitarist Tenedle brengt op zijn nieuwe album ‘Odd To Love’ (Vreemd voor de Liefde) een ode aan Emily Dickinson (1830–1886). Dit keer, zingend in het Engels, zette hij twaalf gedichten van deze Amerikaanse poëet op muziek in een akoestisch/elektronische omgeving, bijgestaan door trompettist Bert Lochs.

Tenedle (Dimitri Niccolai) start zijn werk als componist en liedjesschrijver in het project ‘Laughing Silence‘ in Italië (Florence) in de jaren ’80/midden jaren ’90. In zijn muziek maakt hij gebruik van synthesizers en samples die hij aanvult met akoestische instrumenten (piano, gitaar en bas) en zo een heel eigen ambiance creëert. Een sfeer waarbij de melodie voorop staat, die wordt ondergedompeld in ingenieuze arrangementen die bol staan van ornamenten en versieringen. Een werkwijze die steeds terug te vinden is in zijn werk. Tegenwoordig woont Tenedle in Nederland en bracht inmiddels zes albums op de markt. Zijn nieuwste werk ‘Odd to Love’ is een ode aan Emily Dickinson. Een dichteres wiens poëzie een lyrische weerspiegeling is van haar leefwereld die zich vooral afspeelde binnen de muren van haar huis. Tenedle volgt deze weerspiegeling op de voet en brengt hem muzikaal in kaart. Zijn muziek is ritmisch, zonder gebruik van akoestische drums. Wel horen we drumcomputers en zitten de arrangementen zo in elkaar dat de instrumenten samen één ritmisch geheel vormen. Fraai zijn de onverwachte melodieën die een Italiaanse (Napolitaanse) achtergrond verraadt met spannende akkoord-progressies die je verleiden naar een intense zinsbegoocheling aangevuld met subtiel trompetspel van Bert Lochs die naast trompet (met demper) ook de baritone horn bespeelt. De poëzie van Emily Dickinson is tijdens haar leven weliswaar ongepubliceerd gebleven, maar nu kan zij zich postuum verheugen op dit prachtig album ‘Odd To Love’ dat haar gedichten, inmiddels al meer dan 130 jaar oud, alsnog tijdloos maakt!

The Dutch/Italian singer and guitar player Tenedle releases his new album ‘Odd To Love‘, a tribute to Emily Dickinson (1830-1886). On this record he only sings in English and put twelve poems, written by this American poet, to music in an acoustic/electronic environment, assisted by trumpeter Bert Lochs.

Tenedle (Dimitri Niccolai) started his work as a composer and songwriter in the project ‘Laughing Silence’ in Italy (Florence) in the 80s/mid 90s. In his music he uses synthesizers and samples and completes it with acoustic instruments (piano, guitar and bass). He creates in this way an unique ambience. An atmosphere where the melody is the most important, completed with ornaments by musical instruments and synthesizers. A way of making music which can be found in his entire work. Nowadays Tenedle lives in the Netherlands and released six albums. His latest work ‘Odd to Love’ is a tribute to Emily Dickinson. An American poet whose poetry is a lyrical reflection of the way of living which was mainly in her house. Tenedle follows the reflection of her poems and put them to music. Rhythmic music, without the use of acoustic drums. But there are drum computers and above all, the instruments make up a single rhythm which are put together as tight rhythmic music. Beautifully are the unexpected melodies which refers to an Italian (Neapolitan) background. Tenedle uses exciting chord progressions and adds sometimes a subtle trumpet or baritone horn played by Bert Lochs. Emily Dickinson’s poetry, however, has remained unpublished during her lifetime, but now she can (posthumous) rejoice this wonderful album ‘Odd To Love’, which makes her poems (more than 130 years old) timeless!
