Sinds 1995 vormen de drie broers, neef Eredics en basgitarist Attila Buzás de groep Söndörgő. Na vier cd’s is de band uitgegroeid tot een van meest succesvolle groepen uit Hongarije en valt op door zijn tambura (snaarinstrument) geluid. Geeft veel concerten en speelt op alle major festivals. Begin 2015 werd hun vijfde album ‘Tamburocket – Hungarian Fireworks’ uitgebracht.

Wie aan Hongaarse muziek denkt, denkt eerder aan de viool/cimbaal combinatie dan aan muziek op de tambura; 5-snarig instrument. Söndörgő bespeelt het instrument in verschillende formaten (van alt tot bas), hier en daar aangevuld met blazers (klarinet, fluit), accordeon (geweldig in Landing Cocek) en percussie die het album gevarieerder maken. In 2015 bestaat Söndörgö twintig jaar en werd opgericht in Szentendre, een kleine stad zo’n 20 km ten noorden van de hoofdstad Budapest. Al jarenlang gaat de groep (zelf Servisch/Kroatisch) op zoek naar traditionele Zuid Slavische liederen die in de 16de eeuw zijn meegenomen door Serviërs en Kroaten die op de vlucht waren voor de Ottomaanse overheersing. Tegenwoordig wonen deze gemeenschappen vrij geïsoleerd van elkaar in Hongarije. In Szentendre leeft een Servische minderheid; te zien in de bouwkunst en te horen in de lokale muziek. Söndörgö arrangeert deze oude muziek maar schrijft ook nieuwe stukken waarmee ze uitblinkt met prachtige samenzang, twinkelende ’trotse’ melodieën met opzwepende tempowisselingen, ondersteund door een ‘wisselbas‘: een contrabaspartij die heen en weer springt op tonica en kwint. De mannen zingen prachtig, spelen virtuoos tambura, energiek raspend, virtuoos tokkelend (Draga Kolo) met twinkelende tremolo’s waardoor ze met hun tweede internationale release ‘Tamburocket- Hungarian Fireworks’ een heel ander Hongarije laten horen.

Since 1995, the three brothers, cousin Eredics and bass player Attila Buzás formed the Söndörgő group. After four albums the band has become one of the most successful groups from Hungary and is distinguished by its tambura (stringed instrument) sound. Gave many concerts and played at all major festivals. At the beginning of 2015 their fifth album ‘Tamburocket – Hungarian Fireworks’ was released.

Who thinks about Hungarian music, will think about the violin/cymbal combination. Probably not about the music on the tambura; a 5-stringed instrument. Söndörgő plays the instrument in different formats (from alto to bass), and complemented their music with brass (clarinet, flute), accordion (great in Landing Cocek) and percussion, which makes the album more varied. About twenty years ago Söndörgö was founded in Szentendre, a small town about 20 miles north of the capital Budapest. For years, the group (self Serbian/Croatian) seek for traditional South Slavic songs that were brought by Serbs and Croats in the 16th century, who were fleeing the Ottoman occupation. Nowadays, these communities live relatively isolated from each other in Hungary. In Szentendre lives a Serb minority; be seen in the architecture and to be heard in local music. Söndörgö arranges this old music but also wrote new pieces which excels in beautiful harmonies, twinkling ‘proud’ rousing melodies with tempo changes, supported by a ‘jumping-bass‘: back and forth on tonic and fifth. These musicians sing beautifully, play wonderful tambura, energetic raspy, virtuoso strumming (Draga Kolo) with twinkling tremolos. In this way we hear a very different Hungary on their second international release ‘Tamburocket – Hungarian Fireworks‘.
