De Groningse zangeres Linde Nijland draait al heel wat jaren mee in het Nederlands folk cirquit. Ze was de helft van het duo Ygdrassil waar in 2004 de multisnaren speler Bert Ridderbos aan werd toegevoegd, die ook te horen is op haar laatste album ‘I Am Here‘. Inderdaad: ‘Hier Is Ze’, en hoe! Sober, intens een vooral kraakhelder.

Linde Nijland heeft een prachtig, heldere en breekbare stem. Flinterdunne liedjes zingt ze waarbij ze zichzelf begeleidt op gitaar aangevuld door Bert Ridderbos op gitaar, citer, banjo, mandoline en accordeon en enkele gastmusici. Sobere muziek met sterke melodieën, niet baanbrekend maar mooi, ingetogen en puur. Ze zingt veel eigen werk (ongeveer de helft van het album) dat opmerkelijk goed past naast de covers van o.a. de Engelse band Renaissance en de Amerikaanse troubadours Tom Paxton en J.C. Frank. Teksten mijmeren over het leven, liefde en vriendschap en zetten ook de luisteraar aan tot nadenken, want daar is alle ruimte voor binnen deze warme muziek. Linde Nijland geeft je met ‘I Am Here’ het gevoel dat ze werkelijk naast je zit, je persoonlijk toezingt en dat ze nog wel even blijft: in ieder geval dik drie kwartier en dat is maar goed ook!

Singer Linde Nijland (from Groningen; North of the Netherlands) is one of the finest folk singers of the country. She was one of two in the duo Ygdrassil in which Bert Ridderbos was added in 2004: a multi string musician who plays as well on her latest album ‘I Am Here’.

Linde Nijland has a wonderful, sparkling clear voice. She sings thin songs, accompanying herself on guitar supported by Bert Ridderbos on guitar, zither, banjo, mandolin and accordion and a few guest musicians. Sober music, with catchy melodies, not ground-breaking, but so pure and intense. She sings a lot of her own compositions (almost the half of the album) that beautiful fits between the covers of the English band Renaissance and the American troubadours Tom Paxton and J.C. Frank to name a few. Dreaming lyrics about life, love and friendship which gives you a thinking feeling as well in this warm music. Linde Nijland makes you feel that she’s sitting right beside you, singing her personal songs to you and that she will stay for a while: at least a bit more than forty five minutes, that’s for sure and that’s great!
