Francesca Incudine is een jonge zangeres, gitariste en percussioniste uit Sicilië. Onlangs kwam haar debuut cd ‘Iettavuci’ uit: gezongen in het Siciliaans dialect waarop ze wordt begeleid door haar 7 Sois Mythos Orchestra. Voor enkele liedjes van deze cd won ze de Parodi Award. Tijd om de rest van Europa te veroveren.

Francesca Incudine heeft een prachtig heldere stem, sprankelend in de hoogte met soms een ‘fluisterend randje’. Duidelijk Siciliaans, waarbij de laatste tonen van een zin worden verlaagd, een soort ‘weggooien‘ van de melodie. Dat wordt soms aangevuld met parlando stukken waardoor de melodie zweeft tussen zingen en praten zoals dat gebeurt in het titelstuk. Fraai en zeer overtuigend gebracht door Francesca Incudine, die overigens ook de meeste stukken schreef. Naast Siciliaanse muziek horen we ook invloeden uit Corsica en zelfs de Zuid-Italiaanse tarantella in ‘Posidonia’. Verzorgde arrangementen met een grote rol voor gitaar en chromatische accordeon, prachtig gespeeld door Antonio Vasta die ook een voortreffelijk pianist is. Daarnaast horen we klarinet, percussie, doedelzak, mandola en in twee stukken zelfs een strijkkwartet waardoor de muziek vanuit een heel andere hoek wordt belicht. De cd werd geproduceerd door Mario Incudine, de broer van Francesca. Een musicus die we ook al tegenkwamen in Taberna Mylaensis, de Siciliaanse groep van de in Amsterdam wonende Luciano Maio. ‘Iettavuci’ is een voortreffelijk debuut van Francesca Incudine waar je heerlijk de muzikale warmte voelt van de Zuid-Europese zon!

Francesca Incudine is a singer/songwriter and percussionist from Sicily. Recently she released her début album ‘Iettavuci’: sung in Sicilian dialect accompanied by the ensemble 7 Sois Mythos Orchestra. For a few songs she won the Parodi Award. Time to conquer the rest of Europe.

Francesca Incudine has a bright voice, with sparkling height, sometimes with a ‘whispering edge’. Clear Sicilian, by lowering the last tones of a sentence, a kind of ’throwing away‘ the melody. Sometimes spoken voice is added and we hear a melody between singing and talking: like the title piece ‘Iettavuci’. Excellent and very persuasive sung by Francesca Incudine, who also wrote most of the pieces. Besides Sicilian music we also hear elements form Corsica and the South-Italian tarantella in ‘Posidonia’. Clear arrangements with an important part for guitar and the fisarmonica (diatonic accordion), which is beautiful played by Antonio Vasta, who’s is also a wonderful pianist. Besides we hear the clarinet, percussion, zampogna (pipes), mandola and in two pieces a string quartet which brings another sight to this great music. The cd is produced by Mario Incudine, Francesca’s brother. A musician who also played in Taberna Mylaensis, a Sicilian group founded by the Amsterdam based Luciano Maio. ‘Iettavuci’ is a splendid début of Francesca Incudine on which you feel the musical warmth of the South-European sun!
