Rita Marcotulli en Luciano Biondini – twee musici die drijven op een weelderige collectie van melodieën en harmonieën. ‘La Strada Invisibile’ is een aaneenschakeling van originele thema’s die organisch worden verweven tot een rijke bloemlezing. Marcotulli’s plooibaar en legatospel, met fraaie ostinate linkerhand; zorgt regelmatig voor repeterende ritmiek. Een perfecte tegenhanger voor Biondini’s virtuoos, meeslepend en gedreven accordeon. Muziek die nooit de melodie verlaat, hoe eigenaardig deze soms ook is. Het sterke karakter van de accordeon verbind moeiteloos ‘melancholie’ met ‘optimisme’, waardoor liederlijke stukken als The Moon is a Harsh Mistress of Essa Mulher, die gemakkelijk kunnen vervallen in sentimenteel gedreutel, alleen maar in geloofwaardigheid winnen. Beide musici spelen veel eigen werk, vol timbre wisselingen, modulaties en virtuoze passages zoals het openingswerk ‘Aritmia‘ in een snelle 5-tels maat. ‘La Strada Invisibile’ (De Onzichtbare Weg) is een helverlicht muzikaal pad waar je in bijna een uur de meest mooie landschappen ziet.

How challenging is a duo where two instruments are entirely dependent on each other. Where rhythm, harmony, melody are the binding factor or at least the suggestion of it. The Italian musicians, pianist Rita Marcotulli and accordionist Luciano Biondini recorded the striking album ‘La Strada Invisibile’.

Rita Marcotulli and Luciano Biondini – two musicians floating on a sumptuous collection of melodies and harmonies. ‘La Strada Invisibile‘ is an album with original themes that are organically woven into a rich anthology. Marcotulli’s pliable and legato (with beautiful left hand ostinato) innovates repetitive rhythms. A perfect counterpart for Biondini virtuoso, compelling and passionate music which never leaves the melody. The strong character of the accordion connects easily ‘melancholy’ and ‘optimism’. So debauched pieces like ‘The Moon is a Harsh Mistress’ or ‘Essa Mulher’, which can easily lapse into sentimental playing, only win in credibility. Both musicians play a lot of new composed work, full of timbre changes, modulations and virtuoso passages such as the opening work ‘Aritmia‘ in a quick 5-beat measure. ‘La Strada Invisibile‘ (The Invisible Path) is a brightly lit highway where you pass the most beautiful landscapes in almost one hour. Great record!
